[b][u]MY PLACE s02:e06 - Prickly Business[/u][/b]

“Well, if it isn’t our lovely Santa Mayor!” Mable greeted with a mischievous smile. She still hasn’t let the events of last Christma—I mean, Toy Day go, as if it’s the funniest thing to ever happen. Most humiliating maybe, but as annoying as it is to be reminded of how I had to dress in a beard and red suit to win back the affection of the residents, Mable’s very, very hard to hate. She’s lucky she’s cute.

“Yeah, yeah” I said “laugh it up ladies! I’m here for a hat. You got anything good?”

“Label’s not in today” Mable explained with a forced smile “I think she’s just running a bit late, but I’ll be more than happy to show you around her side of the shop!”

There’s a certain unease in the air whenever the topic of Label or Labelle as she’s known is brought up. I was gonna attempt prying a little information out of Mabel as we looked through today’s selection of headwear, but she was going at such a rapid pace that I never managed to get a word in. Amongst the items was a red cap with the letter M on it which struck me as oddly familiar. I decided to buy it, much to Mabel’s amusement.

“You sure do have a thing for red, don’t you mayor?”

This is never gonna die, is it?

Before leaving the hats and accessories section of the shop, Mabel pulled me aside and spoke quietly so that Sable could neither see nor hear us.

“I have to apologise on behalf of my sister, mayor” she sighed.

“What for?” I asked.

“She hasn’t been in the best frame of mind recently” she said with a shake of her head “She’s usually very sweet and gentle, if a bit anti-social, but ever since you moved here, she’s been taking her anger out on you. Please don’t hold it against her…”

I chuckled. “Yeah, err, I don’t think she’s the one at fault here. I haven’t exactly been the most… smooth talking of customers…”

“What do you mean?” Mabel blinked “Every visit from you is a pleasure!”

“Tell that to your sister” I muttered.

Back in the main section of the shop, I took a quick glance at the shirts on display whilst Mabel prepared the cash register. Sable was as quiet as ever, but she seemed a bit more… forlorn than usual. Despite learning time and time again that trying to flirt strike conversation with her doesn’t work, I decided to try and cheer her up.

“W-what’s the deal with this shirt?” I asked, slipping it off the mannequin despite being urged many times not to do so. “It’s got an arrow pointing downwards! A pretty bold one too. ‘Wonder what its pointing at exactly? ‘Bit suggestive, huh? Crazy!!”

“Mayor?”

“Yeah I know, I’ll leave now.”

“No, listen…” Sable stopped her sewing machine and made the absolute bare minimum effort to face towards me. “I’m… sorry for how I’ve treated you since you moved here.”

“Don’t worry about it” I said “Mabel told me that you’ve been going through some stuff, so I get it. I guess my annoying ass didn’t make things any easier, ay?”

A subtle smile crept its way across her face.
“And here I am, supposed to be the big sister. I suppose she’s always been the first to own up to anything, even when it’s not her fault.”

“…Is it about Labelle?” I asked, bracing myself as if expecting a bullet to the face.

After a long, drawn out sigh, Sable returned her gaze to the fabric that lay underneath her sewing machine. “Yeah. I wasn’t exactly thrilled about her moving in with us at first. ‘Thought she was just crawling back to us after setting off to the big city. I think I still need a bit more convincing though…”

I gulped. “Can I ask why?”

“…Mabel’s waiting for you.”

We’re back with the Able Sisters to uncover more about their history.
I always assumed that while the three of them had more or less made amends by the time New Leaf started, Sable and Label where still at odds with each other with Mabel trying her best to keep them all together again.

In an attempt to redeem himself, the mayor of Place goes the extra mile in improving the village he's been tasked to take care of. However, when a seemingly innocent new neighbour arrives in town, weird things start happening right under the mayor's nose and it's up to Alice to get to the bottom of it before Place falls into the wrong hands...
