Probably has limited power for the TV through solar, small-scale wind turbines on the roof, or a small generator outside. Possibly temporary home until he gets enough money to move into an apartment in the nearby town/city. Edit: Didn't notice this initially, but it could also be a beach, river or lake-side property, as I believe the cabin/house is sitting on stilts. Page 5, bottom left
Good catch on the stilts. However they could also be for leveling the structure on uneven ground, or elevating the whole structure outright. Reasons for that range from distancing the beams from ground issues or utilizing the space for storage or utilities (mobile homes often have ductwork run below because the space is already there.)

Single mattress (size unknown) on floor with no bed frame or box spring. And little to no covers. Tv implies power, however, bathing in a tub outside with the hose says no water heater. Water may be a well, but no confirmation for or against yet. Bare walls and exposed beams and joists means no insulation in the walls. Conclusion: they are living in an incomplete building, a shed or out in the wilderness where such amenities are difficult to acquire. Second. The "calculate debt"... Could mean anything! From a mortgage, to credit cards to back rent... It could be anything... But, maybe he adopted her for tax benefits. Cold, but financial relief is still financial relief! I do look forward to seeing how this shakes out!
Based on what we've seen of the structure so far, it looks to be a cabin, probably out in the ass-end of nowhere.
