That's kinda what I figured. It was kinda weird to join "oh no it's a bot" and then server goes full lockdown lol
It's huge quality drop.
GIF is fully lossless, with h264 you do get video compression and chroma subsampling quarters the color information, that's why you get the color bleeds around the linework and that's why converting back to GIF the filesize bloats and there's even more garbage especially on dark areas.
I have been able to like fuck around with chroma scaling, palette optimization, slight denoising, etc. but it's so huge amount of work which then also requires manual inspection that no further detail is lost (that would've been lost with video compression being turned back into 256 color palette) so it doesn't feel worth it unless it's really really bad GIF to MP4 to GIF conversion.
𝕏 file server is twimg.com, which is on whitelist.
