After forsaking his chromatic nature in pursuit of the love of his life, an older gold dragon, the younger Daratak was devastated when she was soon killed by a red dragon in pursuit of her hoard.  Disillusioned, he swore vengeance not only on the attacker, but all chromatics and any that would stand in his way.  Too small to take his revenge, he turned to a mage's college, which he persuaded and bribed into putting him into a magical stasis, growing him well beyond his years.

A century later, he emerged, with the size and strength of an enchanted great wyrm.  He sought out the red dragon that had slain his mate, and meticulously destroyed their bloodline and all that knew them, down to the minutest mention in a wizard's notes or bard's tales.  When he was finally the only living creature to know the attacker's name, he paid a wizard to erase it from his mind, scrubbing them from history.

Still wrathful, he returned to the now-abandoned college and made it his lair, where he continued scheming to extinct the entirety of the other chromatics.  Still early into his new machinations, the ex-college now serves as a recluse for his mercenaries while he spreads the roots of his influence.
