Admittedly, I learned how to tag from that godforsaken green site, but with how much more in-depth e621 is - and useable despite it all - 'tis hella complicated.
It's good to see someone on this site who's willing to learn from their mistakes and be cordial about it - you'd think it be more a more common mentality given how complicated the tagging system is. Unfortunately, not everyone's like that, as my example above has shown. I've re-added the lore tags now. All things considered, it was nice being able to discuss this with you.
I'm assuming this was your specific reason to why you removed the lore tags here, so it's the one I'll tackle. See, I'm pretty sure these "exemptions" are just people misunderstanding the (admittedly hyper-specific at times) rules of the site and tagging popular characters improperly. If what you say were proper protocol, it'd surely be mentioned somewhere "on this site's guide for tagging genders.":https://e621.net/wiki_pages/3294 It is not, and so I can only assume this is an error on your part; which brings me to something else you've said:
"ih8taxes":/users/2241708 said: Unless a character's gender is debatable or a different identity than what their appearance may suggest (which would warrant lore tags to begin with)[...]
As I said earlier, Hornet's appearance throughout this comic DOES make her gender debatable enough to be tagged "ambigous_gender", so lore tags should be used according to your own logic. The wiki's lore tag page supports this, so I have no reason to doubt this. Look, TWYS can be brutally uncompromising, especially before lore tags were added. One example I'll bring up is whygena's "Reggie":https://e621.net/wiki_pages/20214 and the "very pleasant and cordial conversations people have had regarding his gender in certain posts.":https://e621.net/posts/1559438#comment-3893509 Point being, if what you said about exemptions were true, surely a character as contentious as Reggie would be one, yes? He is not, so there are no exceptions. EDIT: Adding onto how I said people misunderstand how tagging works: I think it's less about that and more that they're forgetting about lore tags in their entirety. I assume you've seen a lot of posts without proper lore tags, and instead of realizing they need to be added to those posts, you've seemingly just concluded that's the proper way it's done on this site (Based on how you said you've been going off your "own eyewitness report").
"anonym_contradiction":/users/2390820 said: Wait, I'm confused[...]
In some cases it's very much 'tag what you see, not what you know', but for certain characters they're either strenuously referred to by certain pronouns or are simply exempt from the rule even if there aren't any posts (character sheets, comics, etcetera) that explicity state their gender identity - the latter being my own eyewitness report rather than any infallible evidence. Unless a character's gender is debatable or a different identity than what their appearance may suggest (which would warrant lore tags to begin with), the rules are lax in this regard. Long story short, gender identity is the exception to this rule. I simply failed to provide enough context initially.
"ih8taxes":/users/2241708 said: Slight tangent, but Hornet is canonically a female, no need for lore tags.
Wait, I'm confused. Isn't that fact precisely why I need to use lore tags for the posts in this pool? Hornet's gender isn't discernable in this comic through TWYS policy alone, thus the female lore tag must be added to accommodate. That's how it works, isn't it?
