CW: ABUSE, BLOOD AND RAPE FOR 3 DRAWINGS NEAR THE END.
All art shown is in order of when it was drawn (Mostly... The Two Guilty teaching images at the end should be before everything else.)
"Why has Poofy not posted any art this week?" A question you've no doubt been NOT asking yourself.
I HAVE BEEN SITTING DOWN AND DOING PROPER PRACTICING!!!
-----
Via the guidance of the WONDERFUL @Guiltstar I have decided to SIT DOWN and commit myself to focused art practice for the first time in like, 4 years.
So I have been drawing everryyday this week, and slowly learning new drawing techniques that are very new to me!
I have been doing art via feel and guesswork for so long, but as I get better at art I find myself more and more limited by my lack of knowledge on establishing proper sketches. I feel hindered by my lack of understanding that im slowly discovering that im lacking.
I had NO idea what a digigrade leg ACTUALLY was, I was just throwing lines around until it worked "GOOD ENOUGH"! And my sketches have frankly been horrifically built upon the shaky foundation of hopes and dreams more than anything solid and recreateable.
But no longer!!! (atleast for braixens)!!!! I have put in the hours and learned ALOT about proper construction techniques, how to use reference properly, how to measure characters and things and how to properly establish scale (Braixens are small lol)
Canonically their like 3 feet tall which is NOT something im going to do (Im going to draw them like 4'9 feet tall.)
I want to work on my humans next, I have alot of great tools in my toolkit now for constructing people and characters out of simple shapes, that can be applied for most things, but humans are rather complex and will need me doing another week of focused practice to get the hang of it.
The feeling of KNOWING what im doing when drawing braixens is insane to me. Properly balancing them, shaping in the blocks under the figure sketch, scaling them down to mostly proper scale. Its an amazing feeling, I KNOW what im doing! I no longer just make guesses until it sort of works, I know the shape of the digigrade leg, I can estimate and measure the scale of the dress properly, the head and ears are more balanced now. My fingers hurt from how FOCUSED I have been and how intentional my line placements have been.
I can extend this new sketching process to EVERYTHING I draw now, I can take the time to practice sketching new characters correctly. I have ALOT of the natural practiced FEEL down for doing art, I have just been missing alot of the foundations I need.
I was serious about me drawing Braixen 1000billion million times. But instead of drawing them that many times I drew them 13 times, which is close enough (:
Guilty has been an AMAZING teacher, he is such an enthusiastic guy. The examples he sketches out are PERFECT and his explinations are sooo goood, hes one of the best teachers ive ever had. I am paying him for lessons, but hes been putting in so much unpaid overtime for me (Hes getting a bonus next time I schedule proper learning time lol) Hes a GREAT guy and an even better teacher to me. And his art is awesome! Hes not had much time to post art lately, but hes ALWAYS working hard on his commissions. You guys should CERTAINLY commission him if you want to get some good stuff done :D He puts his everything into his drawings and teachings, and hes an amazing guy. I aspire to work as quickly and as good as he does :D
The two completed Linearts I did will be reposted the next time I do a sketch dump for the people that missed this post because this was more of an artistic process enthusiast/update post that's not for everyone.
The second fully completed linearted braixen drawing is hot as fuck btw, idk how I pulled that off as well as I did. The guy is jank but whateves. Ive not studied the people yet so their still stuck in the trial and error sketching hellworld.
Heres some keywords for anybody interested in looking into/doing art themselves or are just interested in what im doing here.
Head Measuring. Plum Lines. Figure Sketching. Shape finding?
Figure sketching is REALLY important btw, that's the BIG one. Combined with head measuring you can get the vibes of whatever your drawing down rather quickly.
I always aim for an art completion every 3 working days, but that might be dragged down a bit whilst I get the hang of the new things im learning and as I get more ambitious with drawing better backrounds. (I hate that all my suburban indoor scenes are just empty cube rooms with a couch.)
I love art so much.
Getting taught proper drawing techniques by and artist I adore has been amazing. My progress has been so massively accelerated. The feeling of being sure in my abilities and linework has been so cool. I love being able to put my extra money gained from commissions back into supporting an artist that really deserves it and into rapidly increasing my level of skill.
Commission @Guiltstar he really deserves it.
