Where I live, if you're going in for a colonoscopy, sigmoidoscopy, or similar test where they want to get a good look inside for diagnostic data, they put you on a diet for a few weeks before the exam where you slowly work from normal solid foods down to only liquid food. Basically just broth and juice for the last couple days, and they still get you to drink a fleet enema once your there in hospital. That's the ideal anyway.
