I personally find it horrifying that suicide prevention programs are ramping things down or are even closing across the U.S. Especially when it comes to political conservatives not liking how by definition they've as a matter of policy been against racism, against homophobia, against transphobia, against sexism, and the like. Which is "left-wing" and "woke" as a position these days. So, like, if you're an American social worker who wants to operate a phone network for, say, some particular Black transgender woman to call because she's horrified about her cancer diagnosis and trying to hear a voice telling her to fight on rather than commit suicide... somehow... you're seen in the context of 2020s politics as being an evil person doing evil things who needs to be shut down by the American Congress and the President (through the eyes of the 1/2 of Americans or whatever who like Trump). There's also the underlying thing that American conservatives think that healthcare always and forever has to be a business thing. So, chemotherapy pills are, to them, identical to air fryers in new apartments or those fancy spinning car wheels. They view anything going against such "true-blue capitalism" as inherently wrong, especially if it's stopping the "free market" from taking away stuff from those that "capitalism has found don't deserve it". If we're talking about specific examples. I've never been diagnosed with cancer myself, but I've got extremely severe blood conditions that mean that I go to 'Oncology Centers' for testing identical to men, women, and nonbinary people who actually have been diagnosed themselves. For context. So, I see things like anti-suicide brochures and the like in my regular life. I'm not really psychologically able to understand political conservatives and exactly how they can sleep at night trying to get rid of suicide prevention programs, but it's one of those things that will probably work in my mind to more-or-less permanently reset my own moral convictions throughout the rest of my life. If I'm guessing. It seems so ethically black-and-white.
Existing as a trans person is not being weird in public spaces, being weird in public spaces are the regulations against trans people using bathrooms which often subjects them to invasive searches to determine their “actual gender” regardless of which bathroom they’re in because they’re not perceived as belonging anywhere by the government. This applies to biological females as well who are seen as too masculine and end up being violated for no reason. Bills like this will affect your life too, the Arizona porn bill which was recently passed which will require people to register their ID to get on porn websites will get e6 shut down if they don’t move to a new state soon, and additionally conservative politicians have been considering an outright porn ban altogether. Another oppressive policy towards me and I imagine a lot of other people on this site is RFK’s database tracking the health and personal information of autistic people. The fact someone who wants to “cure autism,” (an impossible task) is tracking my information in direct relation to my autism is terrifying. And besides the point of America, if nothing else, is that you are allowed to be “weird,” in public spaces is it not? If I’m not free to wear the clothes I want or call myself what I want or love who I want then am I really free? Did our founding fathers not even tell us it’s the role of the people to overthrow an oppressive government? Sorry if I’m not going to lay down and let coward liberals steamroll me with their logical fallacies that the right solution is always the middle ground where violence is met with mindless indifference. Was the middle ground between slavery and no slavery some slavery? Was it wrong to take a hard stance one way or another? And should no country or people have ever stood up against a violent and oppressive regime because violence isn’t the answer? I think that freedom and democracy are something worth fighting for.
In 1970, a lowercase lambda was chosen by Tom Doerr as the symbol of the New York chapter of the Gay Activists Alliance. The lambda symbol became associated with gay liberation and recognized as an LGBTQ symbol for some time afterwards, being used as such by the International Gay Rights Congress in Edinburgh.
