Now I have a strange want to watch mlp again
I'm almost certain, the flowers are a metaphor for the darkness inside pinkie. That darkness can spread, as it has. It's turned AJ to drinking, just trying to cope with what Pinkie did. Escaping one's own mind, memories, pain... It's impossible, really, and even talking about it would just make that looming shadow grow over your life, disrupting your every moment. Grief, in other words. The flowers represent dark actions and the grief that they result in.
