This arc sees artist [[Floyd Gottfredson]] take full creative control of the [[Mickey Mouse]] newspaper comic, although [[walt_disney_(artist)|Walt Disney]] does still make suggestions, the most notable of which is a mini-arc based on a then-popular vaudeville routine, in which Mickey attempts to commit suicide but continually fails to do so.

This arc features Minnie's parents and introduces a recurring supporting character, [[butch_(mickey_mouse)|Butch]], a roughneck who would go on to reform and become a friend of Mickey's in future comics.
