In my previous drawing Twitch streams on March 11th and 14th, I did a couple drawings with no photo refs (well except the Paul McCartney doodle, I brought up a photo of him on my ipad). For my St Patrick's Day stream, I wanted to change that. I decided I'd next draw my red panda James and my fourth guinea pig character Sugar, and took some photo refs of myself acting out a scene between the two of them. Since Sugar is a toony character, the only thing I'd really need is a reference on drawing the arms and hands holding a giant lollipop. But since James is an anthro character, having a human photo ref I could look at helped a lot. Compare this drawing of James to the one I did of Peter without reference https://www.furaffinity.net/view/60239331/ and you can see a big difference with James looking more lifelike! This is why artists should use references. Plus I find it fun to pose as my characters. Sugar wants to be nice and share her candy with others, unaware that James the red panda is rather health conscious, in stark contrast to his Garfield-obsessed best friend Peter the cat. I don't draw Sugar often despite her being one of my oldest characters going all the way back to elementary school, and her crossing paths with James is a very unexpected character interaction. I guess that will be a little project for these drawing Twitch streams, to demonstrate how I draw each of my characters.
