The implication (well, stated in the description) is that she bought diapers specifically for Halloween, to maximize candy yield by not having to stop for bathroom breaks. But the candy that she gains from the added time trick or treating is less than or equal in value to the diapers. So she could've just bought extra candy, still went trick or treating, and the candy she bought makes up for the difference from taking bathroom breaks. I don't believe it's supposed to imply (as I believe you interpreted it), that she's choosing to consume the contents of the diaper instead of purchasing edible candy. Yeah, there's the line "it wouldn't taste the same" and indeed poop does not taste like candy, but I think the implication is that she wanted to only eat candy from trick or treating. It doesn't literally taste different, but there is a certain feeling of reward from getting the candy for free, instead of buying it yourself.
