This week's random sports fact: Last week, I mentioned the highest-scoring basketball game at any level, and back on "page 2":/posts/5598672, I showed off the lowest-scoring NBA game; a final of 19-18. But what if I told you there was an even lower-scoring game? At the high school level of basketball, there's no shot clock like in college or the NBA. In general, this leads to lower-scoring games, as teams can hold the ball for as long as they want without shooting. No shot clock, plus two teams who didn't have much offensive skill to begin with, is the perfect storm for an epic fail of a basketball game. Now let's see: In 2023, the Weatherford Eagles and the Anadarko Warriors, two high school teams from Oklahoma, faced off. A few states use a shot clock for high school games, but Oklahoma isn't one of them. These teams also don't have very good offense, so everyone already knows this is gonna be a low-scoring mess. I'd expect something like 29-26 out of a game like this. Well, let's just say "low-scoring mess" was an understatement; a more accurate description would be a 32-minute nap, because the game ended in a score of 4-2. Yes, you read that right: [i]four[/i] to [i]two[/i]. Anadarko stalled this game beyond belief, trying to stop Weatherford from scoring. This, to some extent, worked; they only gave up 4 points... only problem is, they scored even less in the process, resulting in a basketball score that looks like a baseball score. If you weren't in the building for this game, consider yourself lucky.
