Weight distribution in sand is way different from weight distribution in snow.
The reason spreading your weight evenly across snow is so important is due to the chaotic structure of ice crystals that results in many air pockets and loosely-packed piles. Sand, however, is an opposite on the entropic scale, since beaches and the like have over a billion grains per cubic yard (to be conservative), which converts to roughly 1.35 tonnes. Sand is much heavier - there is way more of it packed way tighter in any given space - and you've likely seen camels used for transportation before. At least to them, sand is no issue when your foot is armored with keratin and doesn't get scorched easily.
