My son, Arceus knows everything you do, he can see everything and sooner or later you will be punished for it.

That comment section surely was a thing.
"duracell":/users/172262 said: Mm, as with most of the Commandments and the rest of the Rule Books (Leviticus and Deuteronomy) for that matter, at its core there are entirely practical reasons behind all of it. Why is eating shellfish forbidden? Because eating shellfish when you're in the middle of the desert in the Iron Age is a BAD IDEA. Why are there proscriptions on mixing fabrics? Because apart from the ceremonial and cultural reasons, wool and linen behave in exactly the opposite ways and mixing them will produce a worse garment that costs more and takes a bunch of time to make. This is a bad waste of time and materials when you are trying to survive in the middle of the desert. Why proscribe adultery, and indeed why even have marriage at all? Well, apart from the sacredness of things, preservation of civil society. It's imperative that you do not have people fighting each other and settling their own grievances personally, that gets out of hand very fast. And there is ABSOLUTELY no grievance as emotion-filled as love. The last thing any society needs, and especially one in as desperate a situation as ancient Israel, is for people to start fighting each other to the death over a mate like goddamn wolves. Thus marriage. No, we are inscribing this union in the face of and with the approval of God Almighty, who sees everything at all times, so fuck off and stop stalking her, Ben, she's taken. And because this is such a dangerous thing to risk breaking, it is thus given an equally threatening punishment. I don't care who started it, I'm finishing it, and by it I mean both of you. This all makes sense from an Iron Age perspective, and it makes sense that God would approve of it for His chosen people, because He needs them to be ALIVE, it's kind of important. And honestly, it's not UNimportant in the modern day, because modern society still does not need people settling their own grievances in person in the street, that causes problems. You're supposed to go do things with the laws for that so people don't get shot or stabbed over bullshit. But it's also not nearly as existentially important as it used to be, either, for societies that are no long in any danger of being wiped out. People are more secure to be flexible in their lives, to explore personal independence. Which, you can draw a line from there to the overall decline in the institution of marriage (not exclusively, but as a cause). So if marriage becomes less important, adultery goes from "you will fucking end all of us" to "mm, this is still BAD." But then it's just a taboo. And people get mad horny for taboos.
Many things were made during a radically different epoch from today's (sea food are safer to consume nowadays) but I could understand that at least the children would be the father's and maybe marriage was also a thing to prevent one from escaping his responsibility and leaving a mother alone (especially during an era where women didn't have many rights nor education). I'd also say that monogamy was also meant to prevent STDs from spreading (during an era where contraceptive and condoms weren't really conceptualised for the common folks). Same with how "seeds are precious" so no fapping nor pulling out allowed when the population wasn't as big as before. Life was considered to be too scarce to be wasted away.
"rimjobbussin":/users/1544935 said: TL:DR the timeless word of god is aging.
Yes and no: some ideas in Old Testament are deemed obsolete from a modern point of view but I'd argue that many cultural and legal elements came from the old era and that the basis of western civilisation is still partly from it. So it's both antiquated in a practical point of view but timeless in a fundamental one. You have forsaken your relationship with another human for your own selfish desire. An arid environment is hostile to the shelf-life of delicate goods that already contain a higher percentage of food-borne illnesses, thus leading to 'The Medieval Runs' and a waste of protein on a good day. While this is more speculation on my part, carrying with you an animal from the open sea all the way into a historic ground for Earth's oceanic past may be disrespectful to God's creation. He was there to witness his blue planet dessicate, taking an incomprehensible number species with it - by bringing a lobster to the dunes, you are practically spitting on one of His greatest joys that was lost to time, the aqueous realm that will never be ever again. And as a TL;DR - to sin is to ruin the love you built with others & yourself, to greedily take advantage of God Almighty and his bountiful gifts; don't be an asshole, don't put yourself in harm's way carelessly, and don't take the gift of life for granted. Only through recognizing your sins and misguided actions can you truly begin the path to forgiveness.
I couldn't care less about people wanting an open couple or polyamory as long as the possible kids are well nurtured and safe and I'm not the kind to say "monogamy no longer being respected is the beginning of the end of civilisation" because even in fundamentalist circles there are people that want to try "fishing in another lake".

I hate it here 💔💔

Worry not Christian Fox, for as a Christian you shall be spared so long as you put in real effort to better yourself. Unless you're a modern Christian. Then you're either rich or damned.
