Yeah, I mentioned in other comments that other people noticed that before I picked up on it. Could be all of those things. Let's add "sanity" and "her very self" to that list.

i think the flower resembles something she might be losing slowly over time. could be hope, or innocence, or purity, or something else. with each petal leaving the flower she loses more.
My mental narration as I was reading: Okay, so someone found her, someone who looks like "Them" which is not a good sign, but...they gave her a flower? That's not bad. Wait, she's in a numbered jumpsuit and using telekinesis while...yeah, those are "Them" and They're watching her with a clipboard? Oh...oh no...
So she was picked up from the streets and trained at an early age
