For sure Carol is seemingly being set up as the prime suspect & seeing that reincarnation is indeed proven to be possible she'd certainly have the means & motivation to open a fountain if it means seeing her daughter again. My biggest hang up is that we see the Knight clearly drawing a bat before turning into a sword. I guess the case for Carol is a lot stronger but I do wonder if shes being treated as some kind of red herring, similiar to Kris at the end of Ch2. Someone that at first glance seems to obviously be the Knight but reavealed later to just be collaborator as opposed to actually being the The Knight themselves.

[spoiler]If you go back to Ch3 & de-Ralsei-fy the lyrics to the song they are singing in the rhythm game sequence the true lyrics feel very Dess-coded & given what we learn of her characterization by Mr. Tenna & what we gleam from her room in Ch4 she may very well have written the song. The song is also called "Raise Up Your Bat" & what does the Knight's sword resemble? So I think Dess being the Knight is very plausible.[/spoiler]
