Actually, every act of friendship probably strengthens and grows that tree (and the three others, but that is less relevant here). So every act of Kindness, Generosity, Encouragement, Honesty, or Loyalty, every Friendship in Equestria makes her prison thicker around her.
Sorta like IRL when people forget their quarrels of the past (even the national/generational/racial) it drives another metaphorical nail into the metaphorical coffins of The Third Reich, KKK, Black Panthers, etc. For the metaphorical children and cousins of those ills, for the "agains" that make lies of the oaths of "Never Again" many swore after WWII... Well, we don't have together trees IRL, but we do have foreign policies, and, IMHO, as a very last resort, military force. If Opaline deserved to be bound in darkness for a few centuries, I, personally, see no reason why, with less ability for nonlethal takedowns than CGI Equines, rescue should not come with a headshot when all other reasonable approaches have failed. YMMV.
