Allow me to introduce Quickhatch (from the East Cree term for wolverine in Canada, kwiihkwahaacheew), my first X-men OC.
Similar to X-23, Quickhatch is a clone of Wolverine (James "Logan" Howlett) done in backup for Project X in the event the original failed. Though, rather than keep him human, they added pure feral wolverine DNA in attempt to make him more 'unique'. The result making him evolve from his human form into an anthropomorphic form, the Adamantium metal they also fused into his skeleton transforming the claws on his feet and hands into the same metal.
Eventually, when achieving his anthro form and all the strength that came with it, he broke free and escaped into the wild; after leaving a trail of blood in his wake. All that time, he was haunted by the dreams of his progenitor; Wolverine. He came to resent his original, blaming him for the suffering he endured in his creation and viewing him as a "pale imitation" of the real thing for not being a NATURAL wolverine like him.
After weeks, Quickhatch tracked Wolverine down and reached the X-Manor. Purposely setting off the alarm, he called Wolverine out and demanded the Mutant hero come out. He desired a fight with him, to prove he is the superior/"true" Wolverine (to show he is not Logan's shadow) and his originator the "real pretender". Accepting the challenge, Wolverine and Quickhatch fought for over an hour in the forest; making use of the nature however they could.
It was a surprisingly even fight, with both able to take so much and deal just as much back. While Quickhatch is more in-tune with his animal instincts being an anthro-hybrid, Wolverine had more experience due to being older and having faced more than his rival. Wolverine's claws managed to match Quickhatch's claws strike for strike. It was the superior instinct vs the superior experience. After a long and drawn out fight in the woods, things end in a draw; with the two wearing each other out and their healing factor constantly healing whatever injuries they got from each other.
Accepting the outcome and expressing genuine respect for his original Quickhatch pulled Wolverine against him in a protective embrace; apologizing for underestimating his originator and acknowledging him as a true wolverine, now accepting the man wasn't to blame for how his life turned out. Now seeing the hero as just like him, even if on opposite ends of the curve; one being a wolverine in body and the other being a wolverine in spirit.
Wolverine expectedly feels a little uneasy with it at first, being at each other's throats at first only to now be in an embrace with each other. Yet he couldn't deny that Quickhatch's fur felt warm and soft against his hairy skin (his clothes had been destroyed during the fight, leaving him almost completely naked). Admitting his own respect for his clone, Wolverine even acknowledges him as 'brother' before joining him in unconsciousness .
Afterwards, both are taken in by the other teachers and students where Beast tends to them in the medical wing. After both recover and awaken and explain the whole situation. After a lot of explanation, Professor X allows Quickhatch to stay at the X-Manor; putting him in Wolverine's custody, just like with X-23. Wolverine couldn't help but muse that now he had another clone sibling, yet this one was more wild; but he knew for sure that his life was about to become that more interesting.
This piece is a request I received from my good friend richardlw1983, the idea came to me in an exchange with him about X-men.
Be sure to check out his works when you have the chance. His work rocks. ^^
