Years ago, back when I was friends with this artist, I commissioned a handful of drawings from her (because I like to support my friends) and this is one the older pieces I got off of her. Not the oldest drawing of Sharon I've commissioned, but definitely up there. I remember I wanted to challenge this artist and bring her out of her comfort zone, so I encouraged her to draw my character in a distinct pose and to do a full background. It was pretty rough and looks a little crude nowadays, but I'm glad she gave it a try.
I had yet to really figure out what Sharon's homeland was like at the time, so I opted to let the artist experiment with the scenery. In her case, she went with all sorts of colorful tropical-looking flowers and non-pine trees - a somewhat stark contrast to how I'd later visualize Ashleaf (dense pine trees dotted with mostly warm-colored flora and tall amber mushroom trees, with bright blues emerging only at night). I think she did well enough with the environment, though, given the limited source material. Also, being from 2012, Sharon's design here is of her older layout - the brown eyes, white claws, and the ridges on her tail are clear giveaways of that.
It's rough and the artist never was one for doing backgrounds, but I still feel there's a certain charm to this drawing that I still like. Maybe it's the details she put into the flowers and trees, or the fog effects in the back that helps provide some additional depth-of-field. If nothing else, it's a rather peaceful image and I wouldn't mind having more images drawn of Sharon enjoying her time in the wilderness.
