I was taken with the entourage to the country estate; for what reason I cannot fathom except to be baggage, for surely there was nobody to display me to and my purpose to him - such as it was - could hardly be fulfilled without the canvases, pigments & all, whose bulk precluded their easy transit. Nonetheless I was not without a ream of paper & some watercolor & was able to capture from memory a conversation I had with a fellow slave to occupy myself.
