I'm 100% out out of the loop but getting massive palantir vibes from this.
I don't remember many people hating on the Pale King. He was a good king, just a bad dad; not like he had much of a choice in that matter. Funnily enough, he wasn't bad enough of a dad. Had he not shown any affection towards the Pale Vessel/Hollow Knight then it wouldn't have grown a conscience and he'd still have a kingdom. Or maybe the HK always had a conscience, it just didn't fully develop meaning the plan to chain him into the Black Egg was doomed from the start.
