The scene is based on a story I came up with with a friend of mine a few years ago.
The native living red deer tribe, like their four-legged relatives, undergoes the rut in autumn... but this period is much more ritualised than that of the wild deer in the forest: ritual rank fights among the males of the tribe precede this time. The winner, this year again the chief and strongest top stag of the tribe, has won the right to take the females of his choice in the rutting tent - but also for the females it is both a privilege and a pleasure to mate with the top stag on his camp lined with skins in front of witnesses. They all counted on him during the ranking fights... and were satisfied when he was able to prove himself once again against his less experienced rivals.
