Oh - sometime since my earlier, lengthy comment... I came across the answer! Also since then, someone tagged this instance of the {{brooklyn_sweater}} meme.

Iirc, there was a meme about that sweater. I think there's an extra leg hole for the wearer's right leg, so it would actually cover a reasonable amount of your body, especially if worn over other clothing. It's just silly because it's deliberately assymetrical. I think the designer might be selling them online as a novelty, although I can't even find images of it in a search for "sideways sweater", so either they didn't advertise effectively, or you'd have to know what it's called.
What's the story behind that photo.
Worse winter sweater ever. It doesn't keep out the cold at all.
