Another old piece of art about ancient Judea tells the following story. Leah gathered her friends to share bread after a long trip from Damascus. The hot sun beating down on the Mesopotamian soil always made every journey exhausting.
Ayala, the mare with a hat, is seen picking a bread roll for herself—a wonderful friend, easygoing about most things. However, she despised making long trips to gather special ingredients for the bread, as she was the group's baker. Leah and Ayala were very close, even sleeping near each other. Of course, they remained separate, as such a thing was considered taboo and even dangerous.
Despite being Jewish, they had lived among Gentiles before and resembled them more than traditional Jewish culture, something their fellow Jews generally shunned—though a few understood. Now, they were preparing to feast on some bread and enjoy each other's company. Most of them were poor individuals living under Roman rule, which only made things more difficult.
