[/quote] A retainer acts as a mouth guard that a person usually has to wear through out the day & only remove it when eating or drinking. But yeah the trope of the someone "leaving their retainer" at another person's house has traditionally meant to imply they & the other person might have been engaging discreet make-out sessions. Of course it's not a given as it's entirely possible for someone to forget their retainer at a friend's house but with everything else that's implied if they weren't a couple then one or both were crushing hard for each other.

Just went back to check this & it is indeed real! I never saw that flavor text! :O That's so sad :c . This dialogue, in addition to Dess having had Asriel's retainer & shirt in her closet seems to highly suggest that they were really, REALLY, close. It's going to be pretty harrowing when Asriel returns >.< .
