Additional fun fact 2: Based on their physiology, those two painted turtles are both supposed to be females - males have very distinctive long claws on their front feet. They're not really used for hunting, fighting, or digging - they're mainly for performing their mating display and for stroking the females' heads as part of courtship behavior.
