Are we there yet?” a small voice whined from the back seat of the Daniels’ car.\n\n“Nope, Alex. Still not there yet, for the tenth time. Now stop asking, okay?”\n\n“But-“\n\n“I know you guys wanted to do something else tonight, but your mom and me really need to deal with an emergency. You’re old enough to understand, right guys?”\n\n“I knoooooow… but!”\n\n“Shut up, Alex.” Justin piped up, rolling his eyes a little.\n\n“Language, Justin!”\n\n“Sorry, dad. Thanks for letting Cally come, though!”\n\n“You should not thank me, but the Lynches. Not only did they agree to take you two whirlwinds in for the night, but also Calrin. On basically an hour notice, too.”\n\n“Yeah! We should really say thank you.” Calrin joined in. “Right, Justin?”\n\n“I suppose we should.”\n\n“And don’t be a menace, will you, you two?” Mr. Daniels said while looking at his sons through the rearview mirror.\n\n“Hey, why did you single us out? Cally’s here, too!”\n\n“True – but he’s not exactly known for causing any ruckus. Can’t say that about you two.”\n\n“No fair!”\n\n“We’ll be good!” Alex piped up. “Promise.”\n\n“That’s what I wanted to hear.”\n\nHalf an hour of driving, eager chit-chattering and some playful bickering later they finally arrived at their destination – much to Alex’s satisfaction. As soon as the car’s tires stopped – maybe even a second before that – the doors swung open and out jumped three young fox cubs, two with red fur, one with yellow. They ran up the porch and Justin pressed the doorbell before his father even got a chance to get out of the car properly.\n\nMr. Daniels grabbed their backpacks from the trunk and followed the cubs to the Lynches’ house. The door swung open right as he put a hand on Justin’s shoulder, and two feline cubs stood in the doorway with bright grins on their faces. Before they could even say anything, Alex ran up and wrapped his arms around them in a tight hug. Seliron and Coren giggled, and the latter reached down to ruffle the six-year-old fox’s hair.\n\n“Hey there, Alex!” Coren said with a chuckle. “Oh, and hi Justin, Cally and Mr. Daniels!”\n\n“Hey Coren! Hey Sel!”\n\n“Hello, Coren. Where’s your mom and dad?”\n\n“Coming!” came a deep voice from around the corner. A second later, an adult leopard stood in front of them.\n\n“Thanks for taking them in…” Mr. Daniels started. “… and sorry for the incredibly short notice.”\n\n“Eh, don’t worry about it. My two here have been pestering us to let your boys sleep over for a while anyway, so even while the occasion is a little… spontaneous, we’ll manage.”\n\n“Thanks for letting me join, too!” Calrin said and gave Justin a soft nudge.\n\n“Yeah! Thanks for letting us stay over, Mr. Lynch!”\n\n“I’d love to stay and talk, but we really have to get going. I’ll pick them up tomorrow morning, and if there’s any emergency you know our numbers, right?” Justin’s father interrupted.\n\n“Yeah, don’t worry about it. We’ll look after them, you just go deal with whatever you have to deal with.”\n\n“Thank you so much! See you guys tomorrow.” he said and turned around. “And be good!”\n\nThe cubs stepped inside, and right after the door closed behind them, Sel immediately grabbed Calrin by the hand and dragged him off towards the living room. Coren grabbed Alex, and Justin followed suit. The five plopped themselves down on the couch in front of the large TV, and Sel grabbed three of their Switch controllers and handed one to each of the fox cubs. Over the next hours, the living room was filled with the sounds of games, half serious competition and happy, giggling cubs. They cycled through the most popular games on their console, from racing to golf and fighting games, until their voices turned slightly hoarse from all the screaming and laughing.\n\nOnly one thing could disturb their quest for fun – and that was a call for pizza coming from Sel’s and Coren’s parents. They wolfed down a few slices each and combined with sugary soft drinks and mozzarella sticks, all five were full within not even half an hour. The cubs basically rolled back into the living room, but after hours of gaming their motivation to stare at a screen was rather low.\n\n“I have an idea!” Sel piped up after a few minutes of laying around lethargically. “Let’s head up to my room.”\n\nAnd so, the five boys dragged themselves up the staircase and into Sel’s room. Once they were in, the panther closed the door behind them. An apprehensive look crossed Calrin's face, as though concerned about being locked in. But it was also warm in the room, and that might have been why he was worried about the only source of fresh air now sealed.\n\n“Sooo…” Sel began, pondering slightly. “I thought playing cops and robbers might be fun!”\n\n“O-oh! That [i]is[/i] fun!” Justin chimed in. “We’re gonna be the robbers!”\n\n“Of course you wanna be a criminal…” Calrin huffed. “Can’t we be the good guys for once!?”\n\n“Oh c’mon, Cally!
