"description": "MY PLACE s03:3:e10 - A Longing to Leave\n\nAs the sun set on yet another day in Place, I found myself wandering through the far west-side of the village. I don’t normally venture there, but it was hard to relax near my house with Becky and Charlise yelling in each other’s faces. Long story short: somebody tried to catch a bug but the other scared it away and that first person’s annoyed tantrum only worsened the other person’s headache… pretty uninteresting stuff and a very petty reason to go at each other’s throats, but sadly, that has sort of become the norm here.\n\n\nI don’t think that Charlise is deliberately picking fights or anything, but between Becky and Whitney and, hell, even Carmen and Stinky on occasion, that bear just doesn’t seem to get along with her neighbours very well. I suppose it doesn’t help that Becky is quite naturally aloof and Whitney has an air of pretension about her - definitely not the sort of company the rough-around-the-edges Charlise would ever willingly keep, but I suppose you can’t choose who you live with sometimes.\n\n\nAnyway, I decided to stroll as far away from their quarrel as possible. I eventually came across Simon, who was tending to the flowers that once belonged to Gruff. He had died just a little under a year ago, and while not many of us were all that close to him, it did come as quite a shock. Especially to a certain mayor.\n\n\nWhile I had intended to get some alone time that afternoon, I decided to check up on Simon regardless.\n\n\n“Hiya Simon,” I waved, trying not to alarm him as I approached.\n\n\n“Oh! Hi there Alice!” he smiled. “What brings you this far out?”\n\n\n“I needed a break from the local soap opera that’s happening near Town Hall,” I explained, dryly.\n\n\nSimon sighed. “Charlise again?”\n\n\nI nodded. “I can’t see her sticking around for much longer at this rate, do you?”\n\n\n“I wouldn’t be surprised,” he answered, giving the flowers a drink from his watering can. They've multiplied since the Beautiful Town ordinance went into effect. “Charlise has been here for quite a while and most of the people she was really fond of have moved on.”\n\n“Like Bluebear, right?” I asked. \n\n\n“Umhum,” he nodded, “those two were like sisters. Little Bluebear still comes to visit now and then, of course, but I don’t think it's enough to fill the void for Charlise.”\n\n\n“But you’ve been here a while too,” I said, watching a butterfly flutter by, “don’t you miss anybody?”\n\n\n“Oh, sure I do,” he said, briefly glancing at the nearby gravestone. “...but I tend to get along with everybody who lives here so maybe that’s just my problem!”\n\n\n“That’s not a bad trait to have!” I giggled. “You ARE really nice.”\nAn awkward comment to give someone, I immediately thought, but the words just sorta spilled out.\n\n\n“Aw, thanks!” he blushed. “You’re nice too, y’know?”\n\n\n“Nice?! No I’m not…” I said, bashfully.\n\n\n“No, you are,” he insisted. “I remember the way you used to talk to Bluebear, and even Stinky nowadays. You’re sweet with them. I think that you just have a low tolerance for, um, silliness.”\n\n\n“I guess…” I sighed, staring into the river that flowed gently nearby. “I’ve always assumed that you all thought I was a bit of a stick in the mud because of that.”\n\n\n“Well, for what it’s worth, I certainly don’t.”\n\n\nWe smiled at each other. I allowed a moment of silence to subdue the conversation, but in my mind I was screaming to myself: “PLEASE CHANGE THE TOPIC!!”\n\n\n“I still don’t know if I want to stick around or not,” I said, sheepishly. “Sometimes I think I have my mind made up, but I still don’t know where I’ll go or what I’ll even do with myself once I leave Place behind.”\n\n\nSimon thought for a moment as he watered the plants. I shouldn’t be dumping all my problems on him like this, but I feel like he’s the only animal in town who will actually listen to me.\n\n\n“Well,” he said, “perhaps give it another few months? If you spend all day wondering about WHY you’re here, you’ll never find any reason to stay in the first place. Place isn’t about rushing things or getting somewhere fast. Don’t worry, Alice. It’ll come to you eventually.”\n\nIt was a hard pill to swallow, but I suppose it made sense. It’s always been hard for me to be patient… maybe I need to reassess why I even came here in the first place instead? This weird push-and-pull I’ve been feeling has been at the forefront of my mind since Vladimir left. \n\nI need to find my reason to be… without trying to find it.\n\nHow hard could it be?\n\n\n\n\n\n~Author’s Notes~\n\nTrying my gosh darn hardest not go around in circles when it comes to detailing Alice’s inner monologue. She’s a very passive character (when she’s not being a detective), so I’m gonna try to either thrust weird situations upon her or just make her stealth-interview the other residents to find some new perspective.",

She’s a very passive character (when she’s not being a detective), so I’m gonna try to either thrust weird situations upon her or just make her stealth-interview the other residents to find some new perspective."
