So many signs were pointing towards her with bright glowing neon lights and the mere prospect of validation was enough to keep me smiling from the moment I woke up. In some ways, I was more looking forward to proving my suspicions to the mayor than getting rid of Vladimir.[/i]\n\n\n[i]Becky lives only a few steps away from me, so once I stood out of my house, my target was in sight. Before I could advance towards the property, however, a certain pink bear let himself in and slammed Becky’s door behind him. I stood stunned for a moment. He hadn’t noticed me watching, but just how lucky could an unqualified detective get?![/i]\n\n\n[i]I sneaked up to the house. Becky lives in what could best be described as a giant tin can with windows. I’ve never seen the interior, but you’d expect the outward appearances of her house to be a little more refined, given the nature of her personality. Anyways, I crouched below one of the windows and listened intently to the ongoing conversation through the generously thin walls.[/i]\n\n\n\n\n[i]“Are you still upset about that street light?” came Becky’s hoity voice from inside. “It’s just one lousy lamp amongst all the other things. I’d say it's best to let them have some… rustic garbage to not rouse any suspicion.”[/i]\n\n\n[i]“It is an eyesore!” spat Vladimir, his voice muffled yet still distinctively angry. “I blame myself. I should have kept a tighter grip on the mayor sooner to avoid it from happening.”[/i]\n\n[i]\n“I wouldn’t worry about it. He’s put up plenty of public works projects by himself lately that have been more to your standards. I don’t see why you had to haggle him so much when you could have just asked his secretary directly.” [/i]\n\n\n[i]“His little assistant is a dolt. When I asked about a drive-in movie theatre, the dog said that she didn’t even know what a ‘drive-in’ was!”[/i]\n\n\n[i]“A drive-in theatre?!” Becky laughed. “And you have the gall to call my ideas tacky? Nobody here even owns a car!”[/i]\n\n[i]\n“But what good is a town without a picture house?! This dump barely qualifies as liveable, even with my improvements.”[/i]\n[i]\n“Don’t speak so soon. I heard on the grapevine that Place has just achieved its perfect town rating.”[/i]\n\n\n[i]“What?” Vlad spluttered. “Is that true? So soon?”[/i]\n[i]\n\n“Mmhmm. It’s idle gossip at the moment, but not even the mayor knows yet.”[/i]\n\n\n[i]“I did it…” Vladimir began to chuckle. Even from the otherside of the wall, it made my skin crawl. “I got Place to where it needed to be! We can now move forward with the final steps of the plan. By next week, we’ll be lining our pockets once more, my dear!”[/i]\n\n\n[i]“Don’t call me dear.”[/i]\n\n\n[i]“Hmph. You will come around. Eheheh… these villagers truly have such little standards! I’ll be sure to thank them before we move on.”[/i]\n\n[i]\n“I’d just be careful if I were you. Apparently, that koala girl is snooping around.”[/i]\n\n\n[i]I got chills after hearing that.[/i]\n\n[i]Did I get snitched?![/i]\n\n[i]\n“Ugh…” groaned Vladimir. The feeling was mutual. “I wish I could dispose of her just as easily as the other two, but there is no chance that she would leave quietly.”[/i]\n\n\n[i]“You’ll be happy to hear this then; she and the mayor aren’t exactly getting along at the moment.”[/i]\n\n\n[i]“No?”[/i]\n\n\n[i]“I managed to squeeze some information out of Simon. Apparently, she came off as a conspiracy nut and they haven’t spoken since the police station was built.”[/i]\n\n[i]Vladimir laughed heartily as I gritted my teeth.\nBecky makes sure that he knows EVERYTHING, and what’s worse is that every one of my suspicions were correct. He did force out Yuka and Beardo. He is stealing ideas for Public Works Projects and funding them for his own ends… but what are those ends? I have my culprits but no motive…[/i]\n\n\n[i]“This couldn’t be more perfect!” he purred. “First, I shall drive out Miss Alice, then I can get rid of the mayor with no trouble at all. Hand me a wine glass!”[/i]\n\n\n[i]“Get it yourself.”[/i]\n\n\n[i]“...very well.”[/i]\n\n\n[i]Did I hear that right?\nHe wants to get rid of the mayor?[/i]\n[i]\n\nI had no time to waste. Even without knowing what Vladimir and Becky wanted exactly, I needed to act fast before he made me disappear too. But where do I go? Who has records on everybody that moves here?[/i]\n\n\n\n\n~Author’s Notes~\nI was gonna post three episodes this week again but when I started writing this yesterday I got a headache and left it for a while (maybe that says something about the plot being too convoluted…).
