Powerful crossbows striking from elevated cover would have been enough for most conventional forces, but Apollyon and his adventuring companion were anything but conventional. They had fought through, taking a few injuries in the process of thoroughly dismantling their attackers. The ambushing force had been mercenaries. A step away from well armed bandits, if not for their timing. They hadn’t just attacked travelers traveling through the mountain pass. They had been waiting for Apollyon. No warning, no sigil or decry. Just violence, answered by violence.\n\nIt had cost Apollyon a good traveling tunic, and trousers that only a miracle might clear the blood and viscera from. Twelve dead sellswords was a feat, even if Jesse had dismantled her share. Now it was just a matter of getting the confounded marten to hold still long enough for him to apply bandages. Just because the dead men had ruined good clothing with their bolts or heartsblood, didn’t mean he was content to leave her injured. Besides… he needed her assistance. [/quote]",
