[/i]\n\nThe sound drilled into Finley’s subconscious - repetitive and annoying. The type of sound that existed solely to irritate you. It helped drag him from the depths of a deep, heavy sleep - the faint echoes of a dream filled with action and adventure tugging at his memory. \n\nHe could faintly hear himself groan - and as if it flipped a switch in his body, he began to process sensation again. The muscles in his shoulders and neck stiff, lightly throbbing as memories of the long, rough practice earlier that day warredwith the remnants of his dream.\n\nThe warmth against his side and chest, though, was different and odd - his sleep-fogged brain struggling to place the source of that stiffness and heat. \n\nAnother groan from his chest was accompanied by his eyes struggling to open - the dancing lights that played against them making him blink rapidly and tilted his head away to the side as he tried to focus them. \n\nA mumble against his chest finally brought his brain out of the fog and memories came back. \n\n- [b]Friday practice. [/b]\n- [b]No game this weekend, so practice had run long. [/b]\n[i]\nExtra drills. Coach’s voice a gravel-thick memory, “Just because you signed that scholarship offer already doesn’t mean you get to slack off, Barclay. I expect you to show the team and league WHY you earned that offer. And it all starts here, on the practice field. Now, I need 10 more sprints!” [/i]\n\n- [b]Coming home. Walking through the door to an excited Ethan. No parents. Movie Night. \n\nHis muscles screaming at him as he soaked in the shower, while Ethan picked out the movie and made popcorn. \n\nSettling onto the couch with a groan as the DVD menu for ‘Galactic Crusaders 3’ played on the screen, the same looping music that had torn him from his sleep playing loud. \n\nEthan excitedly commentating through the beginning of the movie, bouncing on the couch next to Finley. \n\nFinley closing his eyes to rest them for just a moment during the scene where Emperor Burnbear and the Feline Alliance declare victory over the Canine Republic. [/b]\n\nHe was able to open his eyes more than a crack now; realizing the dancing lights and annoying music were from the DVD menu that were playing on loop in front of him. He breathed in - smells complementing and confirming things for him. Popcorn. Clean shampoo from his shower earlier. And the smell of what was causing the stiffness and producing the warmth against his chest - Ethan. \n\nAs his eyes adjusted to the lighting, he tilted his head down - his neck muscles protesting as he looked down at the smaller bundle of fur tucked against him. The younger border collie snuggled deep against his chest as if he belonged there. Ethan’s head rested against Finley’s chest just below his collarbone, one ear flattened against his chest as if he had been listening to Finley’s heartbeat. One paw lay open over Finley’s midsection, fingers curling, lightly gripping Finley’s t-shirt. \n\nHis breathing was slow and even. As Finley’s body shifted slightly with his own movements, Ethan’s head pushed slightly deeper against Finley’s chest.\n\nAs Finley looked down at his brother, the annoying loop of the DVD menu music faded into the background and he felt a new warmth surge through him. This one was not due to the sore muscles or the warm body tucked against him; but rather a warmth spreading from his chest and heart. \n\nAfter a few moments that stretched out into an eternity, but he knew had only been seconds, Finley let a gentle smile spread across his muzzle. This, here, is all he needed in the world. This is what mattered. The pains and soreness from practice - the fears and anxiety around his relationship with Mark and how his parents would react when he finally told them… \n\n[i]None of that mattered here, in this moment.[/i]\n\nSlowly, with as much care as he could muster, he extracted his arm from where it had become pinned between their bodies.\n\nEthan mumbled a bit as Finley adjusted, nuzzling deeper into Finley’s chest and neck, the younger collie’s breath tickling the soft fur on Finley’s neck. Finley froze for a moment, waiting for Ethan to settle before he slowly reached for the remote that had been just out of reach. \n\nHe clicked the power button, the dancing lights and annoying menu music fading to black - the living room feeling slightly more empty as his eyes adjusted to the darker lightly. \n\nFinley waited a few moments, feeling Ethan’s breathing settling into a rhythm before he wrapped that arm around the younger collie’s shoulder and he settled his chin on top of Ethan’s head, his eyes closing as he allowed the love and warmth of the one snuggled against him to settle through him. His breathing began to match Ethan’s as they settled into a comfortable slumber. \n\n[b]Who cared about the pain he’d certainly have in his neck and other muscles come morning? This is all that mattered. [/b]\n[/q]\n\nHey everyone! \n\nHere is another one I had finished a while ago, but really wanted to write something for.
