Here's a page of sketches I did way back in 2024 and didn't bother posting. The John Cleese drawing is dated August 19, 2024, and the Gavin Newsom sketches are dated October 13 later that year. I have a friend that I sculpt puppets with, and back in August 2024, we were planning to meet John Cleese at GalaxyCon'24 and my friend proposed a strange idea. What if we sculpted a puppet for John Cleese and showed him it at the con? It was a silly idea but we didn't have the time to do the sculpture. I think my friend then suggested another idea that I should do a drawing of John Cleese and give it to him. I did this drawing, referencing a wide eyed photo of Cleese as Basil Fawlty from Fawlty Towers, but I never presented it to Cleese because I didn't think it looked good and it made Basil look too cutesy.
\n\nNow what about these odd drawings of Gavin Newsom? Another puppet idea my friend had was to make a puppet of California Govenor Gavin Newsom, and looking up ref photos of him on google images, there are many photos of Newsom doing these big, unsettling smiles. My friend wanted this puppet to look exaggerated, so I tried to make some weird caricatures of Newsom that emphasized his smile. Puppets need to have a large Pac-Man like mouth to accommodate the hand that goes inside them, so a Newsom puppet having a large smiling mouth would make sense both as a caricature of him and for the structure of the puppet. If I remember right, we tried sculpting a Newsom head with clay but gave up because I didn't think it looked very good, and I found sculpting Newsom's slicked back hair was difficult. Maybe I'll reuse this \"Joker Gavin Newsom\" design for a different character, because I kind of dig the two drawings in the right corner showing a front and side view of Joker Newsom.
