"writing": "\"Boss! Head's up on your nine!\"\n\nZhutto immediately moves backwards to avoid getting tackled by the direwolf. With the rouge beast in front of him now, the minotaur snorts and rams forward to tackle the beast. Shade follows up behind him with a leap up above his shoulders and slamming down hard with her spear on the direwolf's back.\n\nThe beast roars as the strike sent pain throughout its body, but without cause as it rears ifself back and backswipes its right claw against Shade, sending her flying over into a store, crashing through the window and landing against a counter. Zhutto immediately looks where Shade went flying before anger throbbed in his forehead and he lunges at the direwolf to yank hard on its hind legs to suplex it.\n\nShade slowly gets up off the floor and growls before growing heated and begins using her magic to heat up her spear, turning the shaft and tip red. Reeling back with her spear, she heaves and launches it out the window and lands a swift hit on the direwolf in its back as it kicked Zhutto off of its legs. The kitsune then leaps put of the shop she was in and rushes towards Zhutto. \"Boss! Flying press style!\"\n\nShe leaps up at him and he catches her right foot in his hands for a moment before thrusting her up into the air. Shade takes aim before pile driving herself down onto the direwolf and railing her elbow into the beasts back. A harsh cracking noise is heard as the ground beneath the two takes damages and the direwolf ceases movement from the impact.\n\nBlood drips from the open wounds the direwolf had on its body and Shade climbs up off the beast to brush her fur of some debris clinging to her. \"These things are a piece of work. The hell is one doing this close to Sarydia?\" Zhutto walks up to the kitsune and examines the dead direwolf. \"Their population seems to be growing rampant. That's something I was about to call everyone back to discuss. The timing couldn't have been more inconvenient.\"\n\nA few civilians poke out from hiding amongst the area. Some talking amongst themselves about the direwolf. A few talking about Shade and her strength to decimate one down with ease. Soon some of the Sarydian guards with a transport convoy appeared and the two mercenaries gave them the clear to tend to the remains.\n\n.......\n\nOnce back at the guild, Zhutto put out the call for any remaining mercenaries to return for emergency discussion of the direwolf that had entered Sarydia. Sitting in the boardroom presently were the twins, Mally, Maurice, Nate, Walter, and their newest recruit, a leopard going by the name Akita. Mally looks up from the documents she was going over to do a head count. \"Two, three, five, seven... sir. It appears Ivan, Kleau, and Bernice are not here. Should we wait for them?\"\n\nMaurice shakes his head, \"Ivan is possibly still held up with Windfaire. He might not be back until tonight.\" The fox tallies up Ivan for the meeting, \"And what of the elves?\"\n\nZhutto came in with a map, \"They are both on scouting duty and triangulating the direwolves.\" He then places the map down on the table to spread it open to start the meeting. \"As you all might have heard, a stray direwolf found its way here into Sarydia. Taking everyone off guard. Luckily Shade and I were nearby to intercept it before anyone was critically injured.\"\n\n\"Wish we could say the same for the shops that thing wrecked and threw me into. Bastard was very persistent in wanting to keep us off it.\" Shade stretched her arm a bit before leaning back in her chair to crack a few bones. Kitsuno looks at the map Zhutto had out, \"Sir, what possibly is causing all of this?\"\n\nMoving his left hand over the map, he points over a marked perimeter around Sarydia. \"I am afraid it is expansion. It's not just one den of direwolves that is causing issues. It is multiple. With the information and help of the elves and Maurice here, we have been finding out the exact locations where the dens are and to how alarming they have spreaded out.\"\n\nOn the map had several red circles near Sarydia within a twenty mile distance from the edges of town. \"If it was just one den expanding, then it would be normal. But, for multiple dens expanding, something is amiss.\" Maurice then applies some pins onto the map of the nearby locations. \"The ones further out seem to be more secluded than the ones closer to Sarydia. As what would normal direwolves would do to keep their den safe. Their territory would be marked by their own scent and claw markings among trees.\"\n\nAkita perks up a bit as she paid attention to the pins closer towards the city. The leopard girl leans forward to prod at a pin directly east of the city walls. \"Aye, and yet the ones spotted closer were to have been said to be among ruins, no?\" Zhutto nods, \"Right on the dot Akita. The direwolves have been taking refuge in either destroyed buildings, or in unusual areas.\"\n\nShade cocks an eyebrow, \"That's very specific boss. How unusual are we talking here?\" The minotaur points towards the same pin where Akita had poked at. \"From what Kleau has described is that the direwolves that have set up a den here had the remains of equipment bearing odd symbols.\" He then pulls a drawing out the revealed something resembling a sigil. Kitsuno pauses her breath for a moment as the symbol looked similar to a summoning circle.\n\n\"I've talked with Wilhelm from the mage's guild and have confirmation that the sudden boom of direwolves in the vicinity is not just because it was mating season for them a few months back. Someone out there is summoning direwolves.\" Nate shivers in his seat before shaking his head to calm his thoughts. \"But... why would anyone in their right mind do such a thing? Direwolves are vicious enough with their small packs alone. To almost triple the numbers...\"\n\nAkita leans back in her seat and crosses her arms, \"Focus cottonball. With the suddun burst of direwolves, this just means we got more pelts on the way.\" Mally moves behind Akita before bonking her on the head with a cloth covered stick. \"Akita, this is not the leatherworks.\"\n\nWalter shoots a glare at the leopard before returning his attention to the map. \"So sir, where do we start?\" Shade immediately interjects before Zhutto could start. \"While Walter here is on that case of us getting started. How big are the numbers per group?\" There was a pause before Zhutto continued. \"Normal packs contain at most five. The highest one of the nearby ones has reached nine. It would take some sheer firepower to remove that many.\"\n\nKitsuno had an uneasy feeling that her sister was about to do something stupid. \"Alright then. How about Kit and I take care of that one first?\" Kitsuno looks at her twin sister with slight concern, \"Shade. Are you trying to get us killed?\" She shakes her head before focusing her attention to the map. \"You said that area had a sigil correct?\" The minotaur furrows his brow, \"From what Kleau drew, yes. What are you planning Shade?\"\n\nShe then points at the other five circles near Sarydia, \"Have either Kleau or Bernice confirmed seeing the same sigil in these locations?\" Maurice nods, \"So far, one location prior to both the north and southeast have been confirmed.\" Shade looks up at the boar, \"How willing is the city in lending a few soldiers to help counter attack?\"\n\nZhutto sighs, \"That is another pressing matter with the guards. Not many I am afraid can be spared. Most have been put on high alert to guard important structures should another direwolf makes it way into the city again.\"\n\nAn idea pops into Kitsuno's head, \"How about we play defensive then? Pairing up with the guards that are available, we can split into groups.\" Shade then adds in, \"If any mages are able to lend a hand, ask them. I'm sure a magic missile or two would hurt to strike from a distance.\" The younger sister blinks for a moment, \"Are you certain they are able to lend a hand? This is direwolves we are talking about, remember.\"\n\nMaurice take a mental note of Shade's suggestion, \"I'll tend to that later. Though, Shade. What about the area you want to assault? Do you want us to tag along to ensure safety?\" Shade shakes her head, \"No. Just Kitsuno and I will be going. And before any of you start, I have a plan.\" She then creates a small spark of fire between her hands. Akita blinks for a moment as this was her first exposure in seeing Shade using magic. \"You know magic?\"\n\nNate nods, \"Indeed she does. Shade knows a few fire spells herself.\" Akita stared at the elder kitsune, now wondering about the spellblade before her had planned before something clicked in her head. \"Don't tell me you plan on setting them all ablaze.\"\n\nClapping her hands together to snuff out the fire, \"No, not exactly. While fire is going to be involved, yes. I was thinking... something more explosive.\" Kitsuno slaps her sister against her right arm, \"And pray tell how the hell are you going to do that? Last we checked, we don't have gunpowder on standby, let alone you knowing how to cause such force.\"\n\nThe elder twin shakes her head again, \"See that's where you are wrong sis. I've actually been practicing a bit with a book I... ehem. Borrowed.\" Mally narrows her eyes at Shade, \"Borrowed?\" She coughs before continuing on, \"Now, you're a pretty good archer Kit, let's put two and two together. If we can fuse said magic with your arrows, could we effectively create something beneficial to blast the direwolves out of the region?\"\n\nWalter facepalms slightly, \"No offense Kitsuno, but your sister is a bit insane. You're going to blow yourself up.\" He then stands up from his seat, \"Aside from Shade's delusional plan, should we start preparing defenses sir?\" The minotaur nods, \"Granted. Everyone, stock up on supplies and meet back here for your stations in four hours.\" He then turns to Shade. \"Shade, I am being generous on this. You two are allowed to scope out and deal with the den towards the east. However, the first sign that you two are in trouble, you are ordered to retreat immediately. No exceptions.\"\n\nThe meeting room then clears out and the twins head on out towards the armory. On their way out the front door of the guild, Kitsuno jabs Shade in her sides, \"Explosive arrows. Walter has a point sis, this seems like it could backfire severally on us. Why did you even suggest it?\" Shade then taps a finger against the side of her head, \"Trust me sis. I got an idea on how this is going to work. We'll flush out those direwolves amd be back before they know it. Then we'll help them flush out the rest.\"\n\nKitsuno then ponders on the magic her sister was prepared to use exactly, due to the number of times she tried using other spells, only for it to come out as fire. Her thoughts then pause on the fact that Shade admitted to stealing a book from the mage's guild. \"Did you really steal a book from the mages?\" Shade waves her hand a bit as they pass by a crowd, \"I'm sure they won't notice it's missing.\" The younger twin furrows her brows, \"And how long ago was this?\"\n\n\"Two weeks. Why?\" She then facepalms as she found the culprit on why Phoebe couldn't find the tome she needed two weeks ago for some recap on her own spells. \"You are going to return that book later and explain to Phoebe why you had it.\"\n\n.........\n\nAfter the trip to the armory to pick up a new spear for Shade, along with a new set of armor for the twins as well. The duo decided to upgrade a bit from the leather armor they were wearing. Kitsuno topped herself off with some extra chainmail underneath her armor, while Shade on the other hand, went with something more sturdier and a bit heavier. The elder twin was now adorned in plated mail and was adjusting to the way her new armor moved on her body.\n\nOnce that was all set, Kitsuno forced her sister to return the book she stole and the kitsune got an ear full from the otter mage, but was given permission to borrow other books, so long as she told her or someone else. With their gear in place, the twins headed out immediately to scope out the area between the city and the eastern den as the sun was still out. It did not take long for the twins to spot signs of the direwolves as a few of them were out patrolling around the ruins their den was nested on top of.\n\nThe duo set up a position on a slope and hid behind some rocks. Kitsuno pokes over one of the rocks and pulls out a pair of binoculars to get a better look at where the direwolves were standing. A wave of confusion washed over her as the way some of the direwolves looked vastly different. \"Shade? Though it was a bit ragged looking before we started messing it up. Why?\" Shade rises up to meet her sister's height and was passed the binoculars for her to look at the direwolves. \"I distinctly remember the ones we saw during the convoy situation looking less rough than these. Not only that, but the fur color on these seem brighter almost.\"\n\nShade catches one of the beasts walking out of the building. The white sheen of its fur stood out among the rest that had more black and red fur colors. \"Then these can be confirmed to be summoned then.\" She then studies the movement patterns of the visible beasts, \"So, how do you feel about hit and run tactics sis?\"\n\nKitsuno sighs, \"Not very keen with how it is direwolves. If this was with something less dangerous, I would be opt for it.\" The elder twin then slinks down from the rocks and hands her sister the binoculars back. \"Well we can't just sit here and do nothing. Let's go and get starter with attacking.\"\n\nNot given much of a chance, Kitsuno draws out her bow and opens up her quiver to pull out an arrow. Notching the arrow in place, Shade cups both her hands to focus her magic and moves them closer to the arrowhead. Red sparks jolt against the arrow and Shade's palms before fire starts forming in a ball and envelopes the arrowhead completely. \"There we go. Should be good to go.\"\n\n\"Shade, I still think this is a terrible idea.\" The fire then starts reacting to something as black swirls start forming within it. \"I feel like this would detonate at any moment.\"\n\n\"Well, we better send it off before if it decides to.\" Shaking her head, Kitsuno stands tall from their position and aims over the rocks, the black swirls in the fire begin to spark and white light pulsates with it. Narrowing her gaze as she picks out a red furred direwolf, Kitsuno focuses for a moment before releasing the arrow.\n\nTime itself seemed to slow down for a moment as the arrow soared through the air with a faint trail of smoke following it from behind. With a direct hit, the arrow embeds itself in the direwolf's right side, causing it to stagger slightly from the impact. But the moment it regained its footing, is where Shade's magic caused a reaction and the air itself with the arrow combusted into a small explosion.\n\nThe direwolf gets knocked onto the ground from the explosive force and let out a loud guttural yelp, causing a few of the other direwolves to scatter from their positions. Shade watched as the chaos ensured before looking at her sister, \"See? Told you it would work.\"\n\nKitsuno deadpans a bit before pulling out another arrow, \"Great. Well let's get more going before we get swarmed. The moment they start climbing this hill is where we need to go.\" Shade nods before putting down the binoculars and began infusing more of her magic into the next arrow.\n\nOnce it was ready, the next arrow goes flying and strikes into another direwolf. After the second detonation, the rest of the pack focused their attention on where the arrows were coming from before a third arrow landed on the white direwolf. This is where they began to howl and charge towards the hill the twins were on.\n\nShade made a few more arrows for her sister to fire before getting to a defensive position herself and the duo got up from their location and started to retreat back. Kitsuno had to make a close shot from their spot as one of the beasts leapt up with ease towards their location. The explosion from the arrow was enough to topple its balance and send its body tumbling down. \"Holy shit these ones are fast!\"\n\nShade leaps up and held onto her spear with both hands before intercepting another direwolf that climbed up the pathway. \"And nimble too! They did not waste time getting over here.\" She then slams down her spear on its head as it attempts to bite. The direwolf staggers from the hit before growling and swipes a claw forward to strike Shade. The tips of its claws catches against Shade's new armor and leaves a scratch mark against the plates, but the twins retaliate quickly as Shade kicks the direwolfs left paw before embedding her spear into it, and as it shrieks from the injury, Kitsuno draws a normal arrow and releases it into its skull as it pierced through from the roof of its mouth.\n\nAs it falls limp immediately from the fatal blow, the twins keep backing up before the rest of the pack caught up and Shade focused her own magic to raise a firey wall between them and the other six beasts that were climbing up the hill. This buys her enough time to focus more of her magic into a illusion on both her and her sister to create duplicates and send them forward pass the fire as it starts to rage slightly against the grass.\n\nThis proves as an excellent distraction as the beasts begin to target the duplicates running near them. Allowing Kitsuno to take some shots with her arrows. Shade kept her focus on her spell to keep the dulpicates moving to throw the direwolves off more before the fire started to die down.\n\nThe younger twin has acted fast in her shots as she made a nice volley of arrows pin against the beasts that remained and brought down three more with regular arrows. Shade had to break the illusions though as one of the direwolves got too close, forcing her to defend herself and take a larger scrape into her armor as this one was closer during its strike. It however shared the same fate as a few others as the twins worked together and pinned it down with a few arrows and a harsh delivery from Shade's spear right into its side.\n\nTwo of the remaining direwolves retreated from the area as a sign of defeat and worked their way back towards the ruined building. Shade and Kitsuno make their way back to the edge of the hilltop and prepared another infused arrow to launch. The younger twin looked at the direwolves, then towards the ruined watchtower. She aims for the tower and her arrow flies fast and impacts heavily on the lower base of the stone foundation before it detonates. The tower falls into the ruins and the sound of painful yipping echo as it crashes through and crushes the remaining beasts.\n\nShade smiles after some time has passed, \"See? A bit of a setback with them figuring us out, but we got rid of them easily. We should try fusing magic into your arrows more often.\" The younger twin rolls her eyes as the two begin to descend from the hill and make their way towards the ruins. \"There is no way that should have worked so easily. This had to be sheer luck.\"\n\nAs the two reach the ruins, Kitsuno looked at the fallen direwolves she had snipped first with the explosive arrows. Blood had settled down on the ground along with the remains of what had been blown up. \"Something just doesn't feel right sis. Why would one just summon direwolves when there are already enough running about?\"\n\nShade pokes at one of the fresh corpses in the building with her spear, \"Beats me. What's more odd is where are the idiots? We know these things are vicious. I doubt a random summoner would have full control on them. And they couldn't have been bred fast enough to be at this size already.\" Her eyes then glance into the ruined building as she spotted a glowing sigil with some blood stained onto the center, \"Speaking of summoning. Found the sigil Kit.\"\n\nKitsuno walks up towards the opening and spots the magic circle. Her heart started racing as the meer sight of it brought back memories from the sacrificial incident. That is when her eyes focused on the sigil itself before crawling in through some wreckage and landing on the floor. Shade looks at her sister in confusion before following in after her, \"Something on your mind sis? You look more concerned.\"\n\nThe younger sister rubs her eyes a bit before staring further at the sigil. The symbols on it was pulsating slowly, as if it was alive. \"Shade... this summoning circle is active.\" The elder sister stands by the younger sister and closed her eyes a bit, \"So... how do we turn it off?\"\n\n.......\n\nAmong one of the watch towers in the southern section of Sarydia, Walter and Nate were keeping an eye out for the direwolves should any get near the city. Nate perked his ears a bit as he heard some howling in the distance. \"Damn... those things really are active. I hope it isn't an attack that is being planned.\" The male gazelle walked up behind the bunny and placed a hand on his back, \"One would hope not sweetie, I don't want to fathom fighting one head on.\"\n\nHe then shakes his head before gazing out towards the forest in the distance, \"I still don't get Shade. She's revered as some sort of idol by some, but in the end for those that know her, she's just a reckless child.\" Nate flattens his ears a bit, \"Walter she's not that bad. Sure she's a bit more of a free thinker with her ideas, despite some of them being dangerous, she's not that bad of a fighter.\"\n\nWalter sulkens his gaze a bit before letting out a sigh, \"Nate, she's caused more property damages since she arrived to Sarydia from what I have heard. There is just something odd about her and her sister.\"\n\nBefore Nate could say anything else, his ears perk up more as the howling grows louder and his eyes shoot open as he spotted three direwolves dashing out of the forest. \"Walter, look!\" He points towards the trio of beasts that were on the move. Both of them were about ready to sound an alarm to alert the citizens, but the direwolves did not aim for the city.\n\nThe gazelle moves closer towards the edge and squints his eyes to focus on the direction where the direwolves were heading. \"This is strange... they are leaving?\" Nate keeps his gaze focused on the forest the direwolves had left, \"We need to alert the others fast. I think I see something glowing in the forest.\"\n\n.........\n\nAkita was already out in the wilderness scouting for the precise locations of the dens to see about ambush points. So far the leopard girl has marked down five spots where she could make some makeshift snares to tangle up the beasts for easy pickings. \"Getting them into those spots will be a bit difficult, but I am sure with some help with those two kitsunes, it will be easy picking for those pelts. Still can't believe that they let me in. Once I rank in enough from both hunting for pelts and the odd jobs they will have me do, I'll snag some of their blades and make my way to Halèswept.\"\n\nThe then lets out a chuckle before penciling down some more markings in her notes, \"Still cannot believe that I got to meet a spellblade. And a kitsune no less. I'd say that she'd be worth having around, but that girl is more trouble than what I have heard.\" Closing her notes and tucking it away in her satchel, the leopard girl leaps down from the tree she was in and starts moving more towards the north. She was suppose to be at her guard post to watch over for any direwolves that got near the city, but she could care less as she would have been bored.\n\n\"Honestly, no idea why those two came here. This city isn't all cracked up to be. If anything, it's no different than the empire.\" Her ears twitch as she heard large amounts of rustling nearby. The hunter quickly leaps up into a nearby tree and draws out two daggers as she watches whatever comes out into the open.\n\nIn her shock, a pack of seven direwolves come charging through the area, none stopped in their tracks as they trampled through some bushes and small trees. And in short amount of time, the pack had disappeared into the distance. Akita blinks before rubbing her eyes, \"That was a pack. The city is not in that direction.\" She then double takes on the pathway the direwolves charged through and looks back towards the direction of the city itself. \"What... drove them off?\"\n\n........\n\nShade was kneeling down to get a look at some of the symbols within the summoning circle. \"I can barely even read some of these symbols. Most of what I can make out is conjuration, some strengthening enhancements, and... something called spiritus?\" Kitsuno had had her sister scrape some of the blood off with her spear to examine it and was scraping it off into a vial she found laying around the ruined building. \"I'm honestly surprised you are able to read that as much as I can. Those runes don't make sense fully.\"\n\nOnce enough of the blood was in the vial, she seals it shut with a cap and wraps it around with some cloth before putting it in her quiver and slid it down to the bottom. Once done, Kitsuno looks around the rest of the building to see what else was around. \"Think Zhutto would allow us to investigate these buildings once we take care of the other direwolves?\"\n\nShade shrugs before walking away from the sigil and stands next to her sister. \"Beats me Kit. Though, I bet Liam would be interested in this. The mages should know this more, right?\" She then nudges Kitsuno with her left arm, \"If so, could be an excuse to look at these more. Beats some of the recent jobs we've been doing.\"\n\nKitsuno looks at her sister with a questioning gaze, \"I feel like you mean something else besides that sis. I know that some of the clients have been a bit unreliable with their requests, but this can't be something you would show interest in.\" She then pauses a bit before looking at the sigil, \"Remember how bored you got during the lecture at the university? This doesn't seem like something you would focus on.\" Shade shrugs, \"Well I know how magic works and what happens with overloading it. Sigils work the same way, wouldn't it?\"\n\nBoth of them freeze up as their ears perk up as the sound of howling echoes close by in the distance. The two look at each other with concern before Shade backs Kitsuno behind her as the two move towards a broken window. \"There is no way... how would the others know where we are? We killed all nine here.\"\n\nKitsuno's eyes then draw towards the sigil as the ancient letters pulsate and glow. \"You don't think... that they are attracted by the sigils? Right?\" Shade's attention moves towards an opening in the building and she readies her spear for her strike should a direwolf leaps in, \"Normal ones, probably not. Summoned ones...\" debris stirs from the opening as another white direwolf breaks through some of the rubble and lands on the stone flooring, \"Might be a yes.\"\n\nThe direwolf growls before lunging at Shade and attempts a downward strike with its front claws. The elder kitsune leaps forward at the direwolf and swings her spear upwards towards its jawline and makes contact, stunning the beast slightly before both land hard onto the ground. Kitsuno immediately draws an arrow and aims at the white direwolf, but her attention is interrupted as howling echoes behind her, forcing her to move as some of the rubble was starting to move. \"Shade. We need to run!\"\n\nShade kicked the direwolf in the jaw before slamming her spear against its head to concuss it more before retreating next to her sister as the two look around the area. \"How the hell are we going to get out of here? Where did they all come from!?\" Kitsuno pulls back the arrow and sends it flying through an opening and a yelping sound is heard, \"What are the odds they are all from the other dens surrounding the city?\"\n\nFocusing her magic, Shade builds up some fire into her spear and looks at both openings. \"That's how many then? Well over thirty or so?\" The white direwolf manages to get back up but is swiftly brought down as Shade sprints forward and impales her burning spear through its chest. The searing pain the beast screeched out before it fell limp on its side seemed to cause some sort of alarm outside the building as several loud howls were heard, forcing both kitsunes to cover their ears.\n\nKitsuno staggers back a bit before slowly uncovering her ears as the howling dies down slightly in volume, \"What kind of noise was that!? That was ghastly.\" Shade shakes her head and focused as another direwolf makes its way inside near her sister. She yanks her spear out of the dead direwolf and leaps forward to counter its claws as it attempts to strike Kitsuno. The younger twin falls backwards and lands on top of the sigil. A slight burning sensation flows through her blood as the magic circle starts resonating with her body.\n\nAnother direwolf makes its way in the building where the dead one laid and leapt at Shade. This catches her off guard as she kept her focus on fending off the one near her sister and she gets a dent into her armor as the large beast tackles her into the wall. Fury starting to build up in Shade, she lets out a loud yell and pushes herself against the wall to shove the direwolf off her and viciously slams her spear across its face twice before punching it square on the nose. Unfortunately for her, the other beast growls and tackles her down. It attempts to bite down on her body, but she swiftly uses her spear to stop it as it bit down hard onto the pole.\n\nKitsuno slowly gets back up on her own legs and ignores the burning in her body as she notches a new arrow and sends it flying into the right eye of the direwolf pinning her sister down. It shrieks and lets go of Shade's spear as the arrow penetrates its eye and lodged into its skull, causing it to thrash about. The bruised and bloodied direwolf roars at Kitsuno and leaps in attempt to attack her, but is knocked down by Shade as she threw her spear and clocks into its head with the pole and bounces onto the floor.\n\nThe elder kitsune gets up and focuses magic into her hands to produce firey claws and leapt up at the direwolf and begins her frenzy against the beast by tearing into its skin with burning remorse. This unfortunately left her unguarded from behind as two new direwolves wormed their way into the building. Kitsuno sees them and fires another arrow at one of them.\n\nThis distracts the one as it focuses on her and snarls as it ignores the arrow that struck into its shoulder and swipes forward at the younger kitsune. With barely anything to cover herself, Kitsuno ends up holding her bow in front of her and it splinters apart from the strike. Shade notices this and finishes off the direwolf she was assaulting and leapt off to get the one in front of her sister, but the other direwolf that entered with it immediately counters her by tackling her and biting down on her torso. The elder kitsune starts slamming her burning claws into the beasts head as she could feel its teeth sinking through the metal and poking against her body.\n\nWithout warning, it jerks its head to the right and lets go. Sending Shade flying into some rubble and causes a small portion of the building to collapse on her. Kitsuno watches as her sister gets buried and backs up against the wall as the two direwolves corner her. Her heart was racing as this was the end for both of them. \n\nA slight pulsating sound is heard within the room, but Kitsuno could not pay attention to it as she begins to accept her fate. She closes her eyes as a direwolf pins her down and growls at her. As it opens its maw to strike, bright light fills the room.\n\nThe mass of direwolves surrounding the building retreated slightly as the building itself erupts with a large beam of light that shoots forth towards the sky. And emerging from the ruins was a larger beast cloaked in a dark flame. The fire surround its body dissipates and there stood a large nine tailed fox with grey fur and a flowing blue mane. It bends down and growls before the two direwolves that was assaulting Kitsuno was flung up into the air with ease and landed among the rest of the pack.\n\nThe fox like creature in question glares at the pack with hauntingly empty eyes before letting out a hellish noise. Kitsuno opens her eyes as she had expected to be dead now, only to be graced upon the sight of the beast above her. Gears click fast into her head, \"Shade!? What the--\" she is the reminded that they are surrounded by a pack of direwolves and the younger kitsune reels back up on her own feet and saw that the building was no more and that nothing was protecting the two anymore.\n\nOr, so she thought. Shade had more than enough room to deal with in her new forme as some of the direwolves refused to move closer. As if her new appearance was a sign of trouble for them. Some, however took charge and tried to flank her from behind. This proved to be a mistake as Shade could sense them moving and flames formed around the two kitsunes.\n\nThe flames burst outward and set fire to some of the vegetation nearby. This however did not burn down the trees fully as some of the fires hovered away from the folliage and began to collect together. An echoing howl is heard as spiritual formes of direwolves began to appear before Shade and Kitsuno, facing towards the malicious pack and stared down some of them.\n\nIt was at this point that some began to flee from the sight, while the rest took initiative to attack. The spectral direwolves charged forth towards a few of the attackers while some went on pursuit. Shade herself, formed large balls of energy around her tails as they emerged from the eerie aura burning from her. As a direwolf got close to her and Kitsuno, she swiped her front right leg out to knock it back and then commanded an energy orb to fly right into the beast. Not even a yelp was heard as it became surrounded in black fire.\n\nKitsuno could only watch as Shade and her commandment of phantom direwolves drove down some of the assaulting beasts. But not without the urge of feeling ill as something of Shade's new forme was causing unease in her body. Something about her sister was causing a pounding sensation in her heart and head. She then thinks back to what had happened back at the grotto. Something back then and now ties together.\n\nShe shakes her head as she felt her sister move. Looking up, Shade had moved away slightly from her little sister in order to gain better view of some of the direwolves that tried to bait out the phantoms, only to be met with her gaze piercing into their souls and to deliver a volley of magic towards them. Not long after more of the area became covered in black fire did the rest of the pack gave up and began to run for their lives.\n\nAs the remaining direwolves fled and the specters stood their ground, Shade soon knelt down on her front legs and the specters soon disappeared back into the ether. Kitsuno watches as her sister glows into a dim bright light as her body reverts back down to her normal feral forme. Shaking her head from the rest of the intrusive thoughts that appeared during the fight, Kitsuno gets up on her feet again and approaches her sister, \"Shade? Are you alright?\"\n\nSlowly getting up on all fours, Shade looks around the surrounding area slowly as her eyes regain color, \"Yeah.... I think so?\" The two stared the burning black fire and the burnt remains of the direwolves before Kitsuno knelt down to her sister and wrapped her arms around her waist. \"What exactly did you do? How much magic was that?\"\n\nShade could only stare at the ground as her mind tries to recollect what had transpired. \"I... I wish I knew Kit. Like, I knew we were in grave danger there and I kinda lost it. But, it all just came flowing out.\" She lifts her front paws up to her head to rub her face, \"I don't even think I had control of my body either.\"\n\nKitsuno held onto her sister tightly for a bit before setting her back down on the ground. \"Whatever you turned into, definitely was not normal. I think...\" she then rubs her head as the headache was still there, but not as strong. \"Are you able to transform back?\"\n\nShade looks at her paws for a second before shaking her head. \"Give me some time. I have a bit of a metalic taste in my mouth right now. I think focusing on magic will make me puke.\" Kitsuno nods before getting back up. Looking around the wreckage of the building, she spots Shade's spear. Clearing some of the rubble off of it, she lifts the pole up and sees that it is somewhat still intact. \"Well, may as well have something to defend with. We need to get back to Sarydia to report this to Zhutto.\" Shade nods and the two begin to trek off away from the smoldering remains of the den.\n\nHiding among the trees a good distance away from the battlefield was Bernice. The elf was looking through a pair of binoculars and had sharp eye on the twins as they made their retreat. She then pulls out a glowing crystal from her inner side pocket. Giving it a few taps, the crystal turns cyan, \"Kleau. Get over here quickly so we can put these fires out. It's as we suspected. The myths lies true.\""

With the rouge beast in front of him now, the minotaur snorts and rams forward to tackle the beast. Shade follows up behind him with a leap up above his shoulders and slamming down hard with her spear on the direwolf's back.\n\nThe beast roars as the strike sent pain throughout its body, but without cause as it rears ifself back and backswipes its right claw against Shade, sending her flying over into a store, crashing through the window and landing against a counter. Zhutto immediately looks where Shade went flying before anger throbbed in his forehead and he lunges at the direwolf to yank hard on its hind legs to suplex it.\n\nShade slowly gets up off the floor and growls before growing heated and begins using her magic to heat up her spear, turning the shaft and tip red. Reeling back with her spear, she heaves and launches it out the window and lands a swift hit on the direwolf in its back as it kicked Zhutto off of its legs. The kitsune then leaps put of the shop she was in and rushes towards Zhutto. \"Boss! Flying press style!\"\n\nShe leaps up at him and he catches her right foot in his hands for a moment before thrusting her up into the air. Shade takes aim before pile driving herself down onto the direwolf and railing her elbow into the beasts back. A harsh cracking noise is heard as the ground beneath the two takes damages and the direwolf ceases movement from the impact.\n\nBlood drips from the open wounds the direwolf had on its body and Shade climbs up off the beast to brush her fur of some debris clinging to her. \"These things are a piece of work. The hell is one doing this close to Sarydia?\" Zhutto walks up to the kitsune and examines the dead direwolf. \"Their population seems to be growing rampant. That's something I was about to call everyone back to discuss. The timing couldn't have been more inconvenient.\"\n\nA few civilians poke out from hiding amongst the area. Some talking amongst themselves about the direwolf. A few talking about Shade and her strength to decimate one down with ease. Soon some of the Sarydian guards with a transport convoy appeared and the two mercenaries gave them the clear to tend to the remains.\n\n.......\n\nOnce back at the guild, Zhutto put out the call for any remaining mercenaries to return for emergency discussion of the direwolf that had entered Sarydia. Sitting in the boardroom presently were the twins, Mally, Maurice, Nate, Walter, and their newest recruit, a leopard going by the name Akita. Mally looks up from the documents she was going over to do a head count. \"Two, three, five, seven... sir. It appears Ivan, Kleau, and Bernice are not here. Should we wait for them?\"\n\nMaurice shakes his head, \"Ivan is possibly still held up with Windfaire. He might not be back until tonight.\" The fox tallies up Ivan for the meeting, \"And what of the elves?\"\n\nZhutto came in with a map, \"They are both on scouting duty and triangulating the direwolves.\" He then places the map down on the table to spread it open to start the meeting. \"As you all might have heard, a stray direwolf found its way here into Sarydia. Taking everyone off guard. Luckily Shade and I were nearby to intercept it before anyone was critically injured.\"\n\n\"Wish we could say the same for the shops that thing wrecked and threw me into. Bastard was very persistent in wanting to keep us off it.\" Shade stretched her arm a bit before leaning back in her chair to crack a few bones. Kitsuno looks at the map Zhutto had out, \"Sir, what possibly is causing all of this?\"\n\nMoving his left hand over the map, he points over a marked perimeter around Sarydia. \"I am afraid it is expansion. It's not just one den of direwolves that is causing issues. It is multiple. With the information and help of the elves and Maurice here, we have been finding out the exact locations where the dens are and to how alarming they have spreaded out.\"\n\nOn the map had several red circles near Sarydia within a twenty mile distance from the edges of town. \"If it was just one den expanding, then it would be normal. But, for multiple dens expanding, something is amiss.\" Maurice then applies some pins onto the map of the nearby locations. \"The ones further out seem to be more secluded than the ones closer to Sarydia. As what would normal direwolves would do to keep their den safe. Their territory would be marked by their own scent and claw markings among trees.\"\n\nAkita perks up a bit as she paid attention to the pins closer towards the city. The leopard girl leans forward to prod at a pin directly east of the city walls. \"Aye, and yet the ones spotted closer were to have been said to be among ruins, no?\" Zhutto nods, \"Right on the dot Akita. The direwolves have been taking refuge in either destroyed buildings, or in unusual areas.\"\n\nShade cocks an eyebrow, \"That's very specific boss. How unusual are we talking here?\" The minotaur points towards the same pin where Akita had poked at. \"From what Kleau has described is that the direwolves that have set up a den here had the remains of equipment bearing odd symbols.\" He then pulls a drawing out the revealed something resembling a sigil. Kitsuno pauses her breath for a moment as the symbol looked similar to a summoning circle.\n\n\"I've talked with Wilhelm from the mage's guild and have confirmation that the sudden boom of direwolves in the vicinity is not just because it was mating season for them a few months back. Someone out there is summoning direwolves.\" Nate shivers in his seat before shaking his head to calm his thoughts. \"But... why would anyone in their right mind do such a thing? Direwolves are vicious enough with their small packs alone. To almost triple the numbers...\"\n\nAkita leans back in her seat and crosses her arms, \"Focus cottonball. With the suddun burst of direwolves, this just means we got more pelts on the way.\" Mally moves behind Akita before bonking her on the head with a cloth covered stick. \"Akita, this is not the leatherworks.\"\n\nWalter shoots a glare at the leopard before returning his attention to the map. \"So sir, where do we start?\" Shade immediately interjects before Zhutto could start. \"While Walter here is on that case of us getting started. How big are the numbers per group?\" There was a pause before Zhutto continued. \"Normal packs contain at most five. The highest one of the nearby ones has reached nine. It would take some sheer firepower to remove that many.\"\n\nKitsuno had an uneasy feeling that her sister was about to do something stupid. \"Alright then. How about Kit and I take care of that one first?\" Kitsuno looks at her twin sister with slight concern, \"Shade. Are you trying to get us killed?\" She shakes her head before focusing her attention to the map. \"You said that area had a sigil correct?\" The minotaur furrows his brow, \"From what Kleau drew, yes. What are you planning Shade?\"\n\nShe then points at the other five circles near Sarydia, \"Have either Kleau or Bernice confirmed seeing the same sigil in these locations?\" Maurice nods, \"So far, one location prior to both the north and southeast have been confirmed.\" Shade looks up at the boar, \"How willing is the city in lending a few soldiers to help counter attack?\"\n\nZhutto sighs, \"That is another pressing matter with the guards. Not many I am afraid can be spared. Most have been put on high alert to guard important structures should another direwolf makes it way into the city again.\"\n\nAn idea pops into Kitsuno's head, \"How about we play defensive then? Pairing up with the guards that are available, we can split into groups.\" Shade then adds in, \"If any mages are able to lend a hand, ask them. I'm sure a magic missile or two would hurt to strike from a distance.\" The younger sister blinks for a moment, \"Are you certain they are able to lend a hand? This is direwolves we are talking about, remember.\"\n\nMaurice take a mental note of Shade's suggestion, \"I'll tend to that later. Though, Shade. What about the area you want to assault? Do you want us to tag along to ensure safety?\" Shade shakes her head, \"No. Just Kitsuno and I will be going. And before any of you start, I have a plan.\" She then creates a small spark of fire between her hands. Akita blinks for a moment as this was her first exposure in seeing Shade using magic. \"You know magic?\"\n\nNate nods, \"Indeed she does. Shade knows a few fire spells herself.\" Akita stared at the elder kitsune, now wondering about the spellblade before her had planned before something clicked in her head. \"Don't tell me you plan on setting them all ablaze.\"\n\nClapping her hands together to snuff out the fire, \"No, not exactly. While fire is going to be involved, yes. I was thinking... something more explosive.\" Kitsuno slaps her sister against her right arm, \"And pray tell how the hell are you going to do that? Last we checked, we don't have gunpowder on standby, let alone you knowing how to cause such force.\"\n\nThe elder twin shakes her head again, \"See that's where you are wrong sis. I've actually been practicing a bit with a book I... ehem. Borrowed.\" Mally narrows her eyes at Shade, \"Borrowed?\" She coughs before continuing on, \"Now, you're a pretty good archer Kit, let's put two and two together. If we can fuse said magic with your arrows, could we effectively create something beneficial to blast the direwolves out of the region?\"\n\nWalter facepalms slightly, \"No offense Kitsuno, but your sister is a bit insane. You're going to blow yourself up.\" He then stands up from his seat, \"Aside from Shade's delusional plan, should we start preparing defenses sir?\" The minotaur nods, \"Granted. Everyone, stock up on supplies and meet back here for your stations in four hours.\" He then turns to Shade. \"Shade, I am being generous on this. You two are allowed to scope out and deal with the den towards the east. However, the first sign that you two are in trouble, you are ordered to retreat immediately. No exceptions.\"\n\nThe meeting room then clears out and the twins head on out towards the armory. On their way out the front door of the guild, Kitsuno jabs Shade in her sides, \"Explosive arrows. Walter has a point sis, this seems like it could backfire severally on us. Why did you even suggest it?\" Shade then taps a finger against the side of her head, \"Trust me sis. I got an idea on how this is going to work. We'll flush out those direwolves amd be back before they know it. Then we'll help them flush out the rest.\"\n\nKitsuno then ponders on the magic her sister was prepared to use exactly, due to the number of times she tried using other spells, only for it to come out as fire. Her thoughts then pause on the fact that Shade admitted to stealing a book from the mage's guild. \"Did you really steal a book from the mages?\" Shade waves her hand a bit as they pass by a crowd, \"I'm sure they won't notice it's missing.\" The younger twin furrows her brows, \"And how long ago was this?\"\n\n\"Two weeks. Why?\" She then facepalms as she found the culprit on why Phoebe couldn't find the tome she needed two weeks ago for some recap on her own spells. \"You are going to return that book later and explain to Phoebe why you had it.\"\n\n.........\n\nAfter the trip to the armory to pick up a new spear for Shade, along with a new set of armor for the twins as well. The duo decided to upgrade a bit from the leather armor they were wearing. Kitsuno topped herself off with some extra chainmail underneath her armor, while Shade on the other hand, went with something more sturdier and a bit heavier. The elder twin was now adorned in plated mail and was adjusting to the way her new armor moved on her body.\n\nOnce that was all set, Kitsuno forced her sister to return the book she stole and the kitsune got an ear full from the otter mage, but was given permission to borrow other books, so long as she told her or someone else. With their gear in place, the twins headed out immediately to scope out the area between the city and the eastern den as the sun was still out. It did not take long for the twins to spot signs of the direwolves as a few of them were out patrolling around the ruins their den was nested on top of.\n\nThe duo set up a position on a slope and hid behind some rocks. Kitsuno pokes over one of the rocks and pulls out a pair of binoculars to get a better look at where the direwolves were standing. A wave of confusion washed over her as the way some of the direwolves looked vastly different. \"Shade? What color was the fur of the direwolf you and Zhutto encountered?\"\n\nThe elder twin cocks her head slightly before looking at her sister. \"The same blackish brown fur we have seen? Though it was a bit ragged looking before we started messing it up. Why?\" Shade rises up to meet her sister's height and was passed the binoculars for her to look at the direwolves. \"I distinctly remember the ones we saw during the convoy situation looking less rough than these. Not only that, but the fur color on these seem brighter almost.\"\n\nShade catches one of the beasts walking out of the building. The white sheen of its fur stood out among the rest that had more black and red fur colors. \"Then these can be confirmed to be summoned then.\" She then studies the movement patterns of the visible beasts, \"So, how do you feel about hit and run tactics sis?\"\n\nKitsuno sighs, \"Not very keen with how it is direwolves. If this was with something less dangerous, I would be opt for it.\" The elder twin then slinks down from the rocks and hands her sister the binoculars back. \"Well we can't just sit here and do nothing. Let's go and get starter with attacking.\"\n\nNot given much of a chance, Kitsuno draws out her bow and opens up her quiver to pull out an arrow. Notching the arrow in place, Shade cups both her hands to focus her magic and moves them closer to the arrowhead. Red sparks jolt against the arrow and Shade's palms before fire starts forming in a ball and envelopes the arrowhead completely. \"There we go. Should be good to go.\"\n\n\"Shade, I still think this is a terrible idea.\" The fire then starts reacting to something as black swirls start forming within it. \"I feel like this would detonate at any moment.\"\n\n\"Well, we better send it off before if it decides to.\" Shaking her head, Kitsuno stands tall from their position and aims over the rocks, the black swirls in the fire begin to spark and white light pulsates with it. Narrowing her gaze as she picks out a red furred direwolf, Kitsuno focuses for a moment before releasing the arrow.\n\nTime itself seemed to slow down for a moment as the arrow soared through the air with a faint trail of smoke following it from behind. With a direct hit, the arrow embeds itself in the direwolf's right side, causing it to stagger slightly from the impact. But the moment it regained its footing, is where Shade's magic caused a reaction and the air itself with the arrow combusted into a small explosion.\n\nThe direwolf gets knocked onto the ground from the explosive force and let out a loud guttural yelp, causing a few of the other direwolves to scatter from their positions. Shade watched as the chaos ensured before looking at her sister, \"See? Told you it would work.\"\n\nKitsuno deadpans a bit before pulling out another arrow, \"Great. Well let's get more going before we get swarmed. The moment they start climbing this hill is where we need to go.\" Shade nods before putting down the binoculars and began infusing more of her magic into the next arrow.\n\nOnce it was ready, the next arrow goes flying and strikes into another direwolf. After the second detonation, the rest of the pack focused their attention on where the arrows were coming from before a third arrow landed on the white direwolf. This is where they began to howl and charge towards the hill the twins were on.\n\nShade made a few more arrows for her sister to fire before getting to a defensive position herself and the duo got up from their location and started to retreat back. Kitsuno had to make a close shot from their spot as one of the beasts leapt up with ease towards their location. The explosion from the arrow was enough to topple its balance and send its body tumbling down. \"Holy shit these ones are fast!\"\n\nShade leaps up and held onto her spear with both hands before intercepting another direwolf that climbed up the pathway. \"And nimble too! They did not waste time getting over here.\" She then slams down her spear on its head as it attempts to bite. The direwolf staggers from the hit before growling and swipes a claw forward to strike Shade. The tips of its claws catches against Shade's new armor and leaves a scratch mark against the plates, but the twins retaliate quickly as Shade kicks the direwolfs left paw before embedding her spear into it, and as it shrieks from the injury, Kitsuno draws a normal arrow and releases it into its skull as it pierced through from the roof of its mouth.\n\nAs it falls limp immediately from the fatal blow, the twins keep backing up before the rest of the pack caught up and Shade focused her own magic to raise a firey wall between them and the other six beasts that were climbing up the hill. This buys her enough time to focus more of her magic into a illusion on both her and her sister to create duplicates and send them forward pass the fire as it starts to rage slightly against the grass.\n\nThis proves as an excellent distraction as the beasts begin to target the duplicates running near them. Allowing Kitsuno to take some shots with her arrows. Shade kept her focus on her spell to keep the dulpicates moving to throw the direwolves off more before the fire started to die down.\n\nThe younger twin has acted fast in her shots as she made a nice volley of arrows pin against the beasts that remained and brought down three more with regular arrows. Shade had to break the illusions though as one of the direwolves got too close, forcing her to defend herself and take a larger scrape into her armor as this one was closer during its strike. It however shared the same fate as a few others as the twins worked together and pinned it down with a few arrows and a harsh delivery from Shade's spear right into its side.\n\nTwo of the remaining direwolves retreated from the area as a sign of defeat and worked their way back towards the ruined building. Shade and Kitsuno make their way back to the edge of the hilltop and prepared another infused arrow to launch. The younger twin looked at the direwolves, then towards the ruined watchtower. She aims for the tower and her arrow flies fast and impacts heavily on the lower base of the stone foundation before it detonates. The tower falls into the ruins and the sound of painful yipping echo as it crashes through and crushes the remaining beasts.\n\nShade smiles after some time has passed, \"See? A bit of a setback with them figuring us out, but we got rid of them easily. We should try fusing magic into your arrows more often.\" The younger twin rolls her eyes as the two begin to descend from the hill and make their way towards the ruins. \"There is no way that should have worked so easily. This had to be sheer luck.\"\n\nAs the two reach the ruins, Kitsuno looked at the fallen direwolves she had snipped first with the explosive arrows. Blood had settled down on the ground along with the remains of what had been blown up. \"Something just doesn't feel right sis. Why would one just summon direwolves when there are already enough running about?\"\n\nShade pokes at one of the fresh corpses in the building with her spear, \"Beats me. What's more odd is where are the idiots? We know these things are vicious. I doubt a random summoner would have full control on them. And they couldn't have been bred fast enough to be at this size already.\" Her eyes then glance into the ruined building as she spotted a glowing sigil with some blood stained onto the center, \"Speaking of summoning. Found the sigil Kit.\"\n\nKitsuno walks up towards the opening and spots the magic circle. Her heart started racing as the meer sight of it brought back memories from the sacrificial incident. That is when her eyes focused on the sigil itself before crawling in through some wreckage and landing on the floor. Shade looks at her sister in confusion before following in after her, \"Something on your mind sis? You look more concerned.\"\n\nThe younger sister rubs her eyes a bit before staring further at the sigil. The symbols on it was pulsating slowly, as if it was alive. \"Shade... this summoning circle is active.\" The elder sister stands by the younger sister and closed her eyes a bit, \"So... how do we turn it off?\"\n\n.......\n\nAmong one of the watch towers in the southern section of Sarydia, Walter and Nate were keeping an eye out for the direwolves should any get near the city. Nate perked his ears a bit as he heard some howling in the distance. \"Damn... those things really are active. I hope it isn't an attack that is being planned.\" The male gazelle walked up behind the bunny and placed a hand on his back, \"One would hope not sweetie, I don't want to fathom fighting one head on.\"\n\nHe then shakes his head before gazing out towards the forest in the distance, \"I still don't get Shade. She's revered as some sort of idol by some, but in the end for those that know her, she's just a reckless child.\" Nate flattens his ears a bit, \"Walter she's not that bad. Sure she's a bit more of a free thinker with her ideas, despite some of them being dangerous, she's not that bad of a fighter.\"\n\nWalter sulkens his gaze a bit before letting out a sigh, \"Nate, she's caused more property damages since she arrived to Sarydia from what I have heard. There is just something odd about her and her sister.\"\n\nBefore Nate could say anything else, his ears perk up more as the howling grows louder and his eyes shoot open as he spotted three direwolves dashing out of the forest. \"Walter, look!\" He points towards the trio of beasts that were on the move. Both of them were about ready to sound an alarm to alert the citizens, but the direwolves did not aim for the city.\n\nThe gazelle moves closer towards the edge and squints his eyes to focus on the direction where the direwolves were heading. \"This is strange... they are leaving?\" Nate keeps his gaze focused on the forest the direwolves had left, \"We need to alert the others fast. I think I see something glowing in the forest.\"\n\n.........\n\nAkita was already out in the wilderness scouting for the precise locations of the dens to see about ambush points. So far the leopard girl has marked down five spots where she could make some makeshift snares to tangle up the beasts for easy pickings. \"Getting them into those spots will be a bit difficult, but I am sure with some help with those two kitsunes, it will be easy picking for those pelts. Still can't believe that they let me in. Once I rank in enough from both hunting for pelts and the odd jobs they will have me do, I'll snag some of their blades and make my way to Halèswept.\"\n\nThe then lets out a chuckle before penciling down some more markings in her notes, \"Still cannot believe that I got to meet a spellblade. And a kitsune no less. I'd say that she'd be worth having around, but that girl is more trouble than what I have heard.\" Closing her notes and tucking it away in her satchel, the leopard girl leaps down from the tree she was in and starts moving more towards the north. She was suppose to be at her guard post to watch over for any direwolves that got near the city, but she could care less as she would have been bored.\n\n\"Honestly, no idea why those two came here. This city isn't all cracked up to be. If anything, it's no different than the empire.\" Her ears twitch as she heard large amounts of rustling nearby. The hunter quickly leaps up into a nearby tree and draws out two daggers as she watches whatever comes out into the open.\n\nIn her shock, a pack of seven direwolves come charging through the area, none stopped in their tracks as they trampled through some bushes and small trees. And in short amount of time, the pack had disappeared into the distance. Akita blinks before rubbing her eyes, \"That was a pack. The city is not in that direction.\" She then double takes on the pathway the direwolves charged through and looks back towards the direction of the city itself. \"What... drove them off?\"\n\n........\n\nShade was kneeling down to get a look at some of the symbols within the summoning circle. \"I can barely even read some of these symbols. Most of what I can make out is conjuration, some strengthening enhancements, and... something called spiritus?\" Kitsuno had had her sister scrape some of the blood off with her spear to examine it and was scraping it off into a vial she found laying around the ruined building. \"I'm honestly surprised you are able to read that as much as I can. Those runes don't make sense fully.\"\n\nOnce enough of the blood was in the vial, she seals it shut with a cap and wraps it around with some cloth before putting it in her quiver and slid it down to the bottom. Once done, Kitsuno looks around the rest of the building to see what else was around. \"Think Zhutto would allow us to investigate these buildings once we take care of the other direwolves?\"\n\nShade shrugs before walking away from the sigil and stands next to her sister. \"Beats me Kit. Though, I bet Liam would be interested in this. The mages should know this more, right?\" She then nudges Kitsuno with her left arm, \"If so, could be an excuse to look at these more. Beats some of the recent jobs we've been doing.\"\n\nKitsuno looks at her sister with a questioning gaze, \"I feel like you mean something else besides that sis. I know that some of the clients have been a bit unreliable with their requests, but this can't be something you would show interest in.\" She then pauses a bit before looking at the sigil, \"Remember how bored you got during the lecture at the university? This doesn't seem like something you would focus on.\" Shade shrugs, \"Well I know how magic works and what happens with overloading it. Sigils work the same way, wouldn't it?\"\n\nBoth of them freeze up as their ears perk up as the sound of howling echoes close by in the distance. The two look at each other with concern before Shade backs Kitsuno behind her as the two move towards a broken window. \"There is no way... how would the others know where we are? We killed all nine here.\"\n\nKitsuno's eyes then draw towards the sigil as the ancient letters pulsate and glow. \"You don't think... that they are attracted by the sigils? Right?\" Shade's attention moves towards an opening in the building and she readies her spear for her strike should a direwolf leaps in, \"Normal ones, probably not. Summoned ones...\" debris stirs from the opening as another white direwolf breaks through some of the rubble and lands on the stone flooring, \"Might be a yes.\"\n\nThe direwolf growls before lunging at Shade and attempts a downward strike with its front claws. The elder kitsune leaps forward at the direwolf and swings her spear upwards towards its jawline and makes contact, stunning the beast slightly before both land hard onto the ground. Kitsuno immediately draws an arrow and aims at the white direwolf, but her attention is interrupted as howling echoes behind her, forcing her to move as some of the rubble was starting to move. \"Shade. We need to run!\"\n\nShade kicked the direwolf in the jaw before slamming her spear against its head to concuss it more before retreating next to her sister as the two look around the area. \"How the hell are we going to get out of here? Where did they all come from!?\" Kitsuno pulls back the arrow and sends it flying through an opening and a yelping sound is heard, \"What are the odds they are all from the other dens surrounding the city?\"\n\nFocusing her magic, Shade builds up some fire into her spear and looks at both openings. \"That's how many then? Well over thirty or so?\" The white direwolf manages to get back up but is swiftly brought down as Shade sprints forward and impales her burning spear through its chest. The searing pain the beast screeched out before it fell limp on its side seemed to cause some sort of alarm outside the building as several loud howls were heard, forcing both kitsunes to cover their ears.\n\nKitsuno staggers back a bit before slowly uncovering her ears as the howling dies down slightly in volume, \"What kind of noise was that!? That was ghastly.\" Shade shakes her head and focused as another direwolf makes its way inside near her sister. She yanks her spear out of the dead direwolf and leaps forward to counter its claws as it attempts to strike Kitsuno. The younger twin falls backwards and lands on top of the sigil. A slight burning sensation flows through her blood as the magic circle starts resonating with her body.\n\nAnother direwolf makes its way in the building where the dead one laid and leapt at Shade. This catches her off guard as she kept her focus on fending off the one near her sister and she gets a dent into her armor as the large beast tackles her into the wall. Fury starting to build up in Shade, she lets out a loud yell and pushes herself against the wall to shove the direwolf off her and viciously slams her spear across its face twice before punching it square on the nose. Unfortunately for her, the other beast growls and tackles her down. It attempts to bite down on her body, but she swiftly uses her spear to stop it as it bit down hard onto the pole.\n\nKitsuno slowly gets back up on her own legs and ignores the burning in her body as she notches a new arrow and sends it flying into the right eye of the direwolf pinning her sister down. It shrieks and lets go of Shade's spear as the arrow penetrates its eye and lodged into its skull, causing it to thrash about. The bruised and bloodied direwolf roars at Kitsuno and leaps in attempt to attack her, but is knocked down by Shade as she threw her spear and clocks into its head with the pole and bounces onto the floor.\n\nThe elder kitsune gets up and focuses magic into her hands to produce firey claws and leapt up at the direwolf and begins her frenzy against the beast by tearing into its skin with burning remorse. This unfortunately left her unguarded from behind as two new direwolves wormed their way into the building. Kitsuno sees them and fires another arrow at one of them.\n\nThis distracts the one as it focuses on her and snarls as it ignores the arrow that struck into its shoulder and swipes forward at the younger kitsune. With barely anything to cover herself, Kitsuno ends up holding her bow in front of her and it splinters apart from the strike. Shade notices this and finishes off the direwolf she was assaulting and leapt off to get the one in front of her sister, but the other direwolf that entered with it immediately counters her by tackling her and biting down on her torso. The elder kitsune starts slamming her burning claws into the beasts head as she could feel its teeth sinking through the metal and poking against her body.\n\nWithout warning, it jerks its head to the right and lets go. Sending Shade flying into some rubble and causes a small portion of the building to collapse on her. Kitsuno watches as her sister gets buried and backs up against the wall as the two direwolves corner her. Her heart was racing as this was the end for both of them. \n\nA slight pulsating sound is heard within the room, but Kitsuno could not pay attention to it as she begins to accept her fate. She closes her eyes as a direwolf pins her down and growls at her. As it opens its maw to strike, bright light fills the room.\n\nThe mass of direwolves surrounding the building retreated slightly as the building itself erupts with a large beam of light that shoots forth towards the sky. And emerging from the ruins was a larger beast cloaked in a dark flame. The fire surround its body dissipates and there stood a large nine tailed fox with grey fur and a flowing blue mane. It bends down and growls before the two direwolves that was assaulting Kitsuno was flung up into the air with ease and landed among the rest of the pack.\n\nThe fox like creature in question glares at the pack with hauntingly empty eyes before letting out a hellish noise. Kitsuno opens her eyes as she had expected to be dead now, only to be graced upon the sight of the beast above her. Gears click fast into her head, \"Shade!? What the--\" she is the reminded that they are surrounded by a pack of direwolves and the younger kitsune reels back up on her own feet and saw that the building was no more and that nothing was protecting the two anymore.\n\nOr, so she thought. Shade had more than enough room to deal with in her new forme as some of the direwolves refused to move closer. As if her new appearance was a sign of trouble for them. Some, however took charge and tried to flank her from behind. This proved to be a mistake as Shade could sense them moving and flames formed around the two kitsunes.\n\nThe flames burst outward and set fire to some of the vegetation nearby. This however did not burn down the trees fully as some of the fires hovered away from the folliage and began to collect together. An echoing howl is heard as spiritual formes of direwolves began to appear before Shade and Kitsuno, facing towards the malicious pack and stared down some of them.\n\nIt was at this point that some began to flee from the sight, while the rest took initiative to attack. The spectral direwolves charged forth towards a few of the attackers while some went on pursuit. Shade herself, formed large balls of energy around her tails as they emerged from the eerie aura burning from her. As a direwolf got close to her and Kitsuno, she swiped her front right leg out to knock it back and then commanded an energy orb to fly right into the beast. Not even a yelp was heard as it became surrounded in black fire.\n\nKitsuno could only watch as Shade and her commandment of phantom direwolves drove down some of the assaulting beasts. But not without the urge of feeling ill as something of Shade's new forme was causing unease in her body. Something about her sister was causing a pounding sensation in her heart and head. She then thinks back to what had happened back at the grotto. Something back then and now ties together.\n\nShe shakes her head as she felt her sister move. Looking up, Shade had moved away slightly from her little sister in order to gain better view of some of the direwolves that tried to bait out the phantoms, only to be met with her gaze piercing into their souls and to deliver a volley of magic towards them. Not long after more of the area became covered in black fire did the rest of the pack gave up and began to run for their lives.\n\nAs the remaining direwolves fled and the specters stood their ground, Shade soon knelt down on her front legs and the specters soon disappeared back into the ether. Kitsuno watches as her sister glows into a dim bright light as her body reverts back down to her normal feral forme. Shaking her head from the rest of the intrusive thoughts that appeared during the fight, Kitsuno gets up on her feet again and approaches her sister, \"Shade? Are you alright?\"\n\nSlowly getting up on all fours, Shade looks around the surrounding area slowly as her eyes regain color, \"Yeah.... I think so?\" The two stared the burning black fire and the burnt remains of the direwolves before Kitsuno knelt down to her sister and wrapped her arms around her waist. \"What exactly did you do? How much magic was that?\"\n\nShade could only stare at the ground as her mind tries to recollect what had transpired. \"I... I wish I knew Kit. Like, I knew we were in grave danger there and I kinda lost it.
