"description": "
It has been about a month or so since I was invited to join in the lives of the beings I refer to as the Xoa. The following entry encapsulates the notes I have taken so far on them.
\n\n
[TRANSCRIPTION]:
\n\n
\"XOA\"
\n\n
There is no fully \"accurate\" translation for their names or language in any language on Earth, only my best approximations. The name \"XOA\" is derived from a series of geometric symbols that are just a few of many that can be seen if ingesting their more refined nectar.
\n\n
Body shapes & sensory appendages can vary in individuals
\n\n
A brief, faint hallucination I witnessed in their domain in my headspace after being given a small dose
\n\n
I drew this one's tail in a bit of an awkward position :(
\n\n
Usually have 5 digits on each appendage, can have varying amounts of appendages depending on role.
\n\n
Roles can be altered via diet & hormonal methods.
\n\n
Usually have anywhere between 4-8 eyes. Can look intimidating, especially with limited facial expressions, but are actually highly benevolent. They live in a hive-like social setup similarly to ants or bees. Many
\naspects of their behavior, communication, and specialization also share much in common with these
\nbugs. They prioritize community and collective support not just for each other, but are very accomodating & considerate of beings they meet that are not of their kind. They have a great capacity for abstract complex thought & a robust language, but it can only be understood by those with very specific sensory equipment as it is not written or spoken. Their primary form of communication is through a unique, specialized system of
\npheromones that is then processed through their sensitive receptors & processed in their brains as various concepts. For those without the means to perceive such it can often come off as very overstimulating, a perceptible scent similar to the flowers they live in, or nothing at all depending on the biology of the perceiver.
\n\n
They also have some body language and limited vocal abilities. Their mouths have evolved into being just membranes that can temporarily open and their vocal organs are weak & vestigial now, so vocalizations are not nearly as complex & can be painful beyond short periods, so they are only reserved for very specific purposes & emotions, such as after the death of one of their number.
\n\n
Some of this may have something to do with their habitat & diet, they live
\nin a very particular type of flower in large groups that they seal the petals shut in to avoid being
\nnoticed, but keep the plant alive. They extract & feed on the nectar from this flower, which can be worked with for various purposes including being fermented into a potent hallucinogen. The hallucinogenic properties of this nectar may have a connection to the strong mental concepts they are able to share via pheromones alone.
\n\n
It is currently unknown to me how or if they defend themselves from threats other than staying hidden and being hospitable to others. The membrane that covers their jello-like, translucent, bioluminescent bodies is strong enough for them to hold their shape & deal with some elements, but not that strong.
\n",
