Her jet black fur melted almost entirely into the night and her heavy belly weighed against her thighs even in the seated position. It wouldn’t be long now, she had waited long enough to realize her purpose, and her daughter had waited long enough to be born.</p></div><div><br></div>\n<div><p>Other females knelt in a circle around her, all were similarly gravid though they weren’t the focus of tonight’s ritual. Their children would be powerful witches, warlocks, druids or similar; that is assuming they lived. Karu’s daughter however was the one chosen, the one that succeeded where they others hadn’t quite made it. Her daughter deserved so much more than a simple rock pile in the woods, if only…</p></div><div><br></div>\n<div><p>Distant noises started to become audible, it was unclear what they were yet, but it wasn’t a good sign. She turned to look past her prayer circle to the male that was overseeing them. He looked concerned and she didn’t see his animus behind him.</p></div><div><br></div>\n<div><p>“Tamil?” She asked, “Our daughter is almost ready, how much time can they buy us?”</p></div><div><br></div>\n<div><p>In truth he wasn’t the girl’s father, at least not in the traditional sense. Karunada had fond memories of the conception date. The joyous dances of both the women and the men, the mind expanding elixirs and seeing spells they used had been far more powerful than what they could manage now in their diminished state, and all seemed so certain, so true. In her memories were etched the faces of all the 17 males that laid their seed within her that night. She could still feel the churning of the powerful magic that disassembled each’s essence and reassembled only the most perfect of them towards their one purpose.</p></div><div><br></div>\n<div><p>She wondered sometimes how much of Tamil’s traits would manifest in her daughter, if any. It was possible the spells had discarded his seed entirely, finding others superior. Tamil was a strong and well muscled healthy male, but strength and physical size weren’t what their bespoke spell was trying to produce and her stomach being large, but not massive spoke to her daughter being on the petite side as well. Still she hoped some of Tamil was chosen, perhaps his gleaming golden eyes?</p></div><div><br></div>\n<div><p>Her musing through happy memories was interrupted when Tamil’s animus, Karaka, returned. The reddish Spector appeared behind him, wrapped around his body and tethered to him, mind and soul. She felt her own, Civappu, vibrate with resonance with it as information was transferred, along with dread. That told her what she needed to know. The fanatic purifiers would be here soon, and they would be killed at best, flayed and quartered at worst. Her people were hated and any captured suffered horrifically before they died. They could run, but not before the ritual was complete.</p></div><div><br></div>\n<div><p>The noise in the background got louder as her people’s magic clashed with the simple minded yet destructive spells those crusading against them used. She struggled to her feet holding her belly, took a deep breath and briefly allowed herself to enjoy the cool forest breeze against her bare body before walking to the altar.</p></div><div><br></div>\n<div><p>“Mistress!” Someone said, “We haven’t gathered enough power yet. We may not be able to bind the desired animus to your daughter.”</p></div><div><br></div>\n<div><p>“We’ll have to use the rest of the prisoners.” Karu said. There was a look of revulsion on one of the girl’s faces but she stood and walked off, a simple strength spell letting her walk freely despite her gravid state, she’d have no problem dragging a bound adult male back with her either.</p></div><div><br></div>\n<div><p>Karu agreed with the woman’s revulsion. They were supposed to do this right, to gather the needed power from nature as they always had, but in emergencies lifeforce could be a source of immense power. She reminded herself that the prisoners who would soon be used to rush their ritual to completion were from the same army that would have just as soon seen her gutted alive while the crowd watched and cheered. It had to be done and they had it coming.</p></div><div><br></div>\n<div><p>She laid on the altar as the captives were dragged into position, three of them at equal points around the stone altar, each with a different witch holding them, while the others took their places to begin casting. They were struggling hard and would be cursing if it weren’t for gags, she could see the murderous hate in their eyes, but it would all be over soon.</p></div><div><br></div>\n<div><p>The spell started, and the captives convulsed. Their body’s energy mixed with the power of the forest that had been gathered so far. It would be enough, it had to be, and it had to be fast, the fires rapidly approaching would be here soon.</p></div><div><br></div>\n<div><p>The Anima of the witches and of her ersatz mate emerged from their souls and started to channel the power they had gathered to reach beyond the shroud of reality to the place of the spirits, the greatest of mind and will to which all of her kind found a partner for eternity. Her own Civa was one and had served her well as an ally and friend. Karaka was a bit more like a rambunctious sibling to Tamil.</p></div><div><br></div>\n<div><p>The creature they sought for her daughter though was one of much more power than any that had been bound to a living soul before. She needed one that could elevate her people to the strength that had been denied them, who could crush those that would see them slain, who would end the endless spinning of the wheel of this disastrous war. She needed one who could, and would, be the end of the cycle.</p></div><div><br></div>\n<div><p>The nameless being did not come easily, those with power rarely did and often needed substantial persuasion. Luckily they had energy at hand. The captives shuddered and fell as the last of their lives were spent and she felt Civa strain as hard as Karu herself was as the process began to bind the creature to her soon to be born. But it was starting to take, bit by bit, metaphysical stitch by stitch.</p></div><div><br></div>\n<div><p>Karu looked up at a shining star that seemed to glow brighter and smiled to herself. They had it now, her daughter would be their savior, her power beyond the rest of them, even combined. Even if she had to rebuild from scratch, from just a small coven in the woods, her people would thrive again. She hoped she’d live to see it.</p></div><div><br></div>\n<div><p>Karu blinked as the star grew brighter, and closer.</p></div><div><br></div>\n<div><p>‘Civa!’ She shouted in her mind as she started to assemble what she was actually looking at.</p></div><div><br></div>\n<div><p>‘Not done!’ Civappu said in response. She was working hard, Karu knew she was, but the blazing artillery shell, a pure magic sphere made of fire and death wasn’t about to wait. Luckily they were nearly done, well done enough that the others could make their escape.</p></div><div><br></div>\n<div><p>“RUN!” She shouted, putting a force of mental command to her words so they wouldn’t protest. The witches quickly bolted into the woods, spells enhancing their speed as they disappeared.</p></div><div><br></div>\n<div><p>Tamil didn’t. Instead, he came over to her and tried to pick her up.</p></div><div><br></div>\n<div><p>“NO!” She shouted Squirming from his arms, “not done… she’ll die if we don’t…”</p></div><div><br></div>\n<div><p>“She won’t live if we explode either! Karu we have to go!” he said trying to pick her up again.</p></div><div><br></div>\n<div><p>Karunada looked up at Tamil’s lovely face, smiled at him then gave one more command to Civa. ‘Civa, take her. Take my daughter from me to your realm. Finish the binding later.’</p></div><div><br></div>\n<div><p>‘But.. without you… binding this creature on my own is… and to keep the child alive at the same time?’</p></div><div><br></div>\n<div><p>“I know… im sorry.” Karu said, ‘Take my life if you need, but get her away, my… my… In…ka…n…ye….’</p></div><div><br></div>\n\n<p></p><div>Karu trailed off and felt herself collapse as Civa obeyed, her own life force was rapidly drained away she never got to finish her last sentence. She felt her stomach collapse as the child vanished from her. She no longer had the strength to resist as Tamil scooped her up to run, the burning light above them so close now.</div><br><br><p><a href=\"http://www.postybirb.com/\" rel=\"nofollow ugc\">Posted using PostyBirb</a></p>\n",
