"description": "
Ok, \"redrawing old characters\" is too long a title to fit withing character limits, so for the next drawings I'll just title these \"redrawing so-and-so character.\" The next pair of characters are two extinct species, and I decided to do them together. First up, a dodo named Olivia. I don't recall when I first started drawing her, but it would have been around 1998-99. My main guinea pigs Cinnamon and Midnight somehow found the last dodo on Earth and decided to keep her as a pet. In several comics, Olivia would try to lay eggs in order to propagate her species again, only for Cinnamon and Midnight's eccentric uncle named Uncle Weird to come by and smash all the eggs before they could hatch. (More about Uncle Weird in the previous installment of this series https://www.weasyl.com/~guineapigdan/submissions/2379098/redrawing-old-characters-uncle-weird-and-cousin-albert ) Why did Uncle Weird do this? I don't know. I was a kid when I wrote these comics, and that's what I thought was funny. I didn't think about the morality of forcing animals to go extinct. I didn't know how to draw a dodo's distinctive beak though, so in all my old comics with Olivia, she just had a small normal bird beak which made her look more like a mini bald eagle or a chicken. The second character is Andy the ankylosaurus, who first started appearing in my comics around 1998 probably before Olivia, and was named after another kid at daycare named Andy. I just liked having an alliterative name for this character. Somehow, Cinnamon and Midnight also found the last dinosaur on Earth and kept it as a pet as well. I think Andy was inspired from watching The Land Before Time and its sequels as a kid, and I wanted to make my own dinosaur character. However the way I drew Andy's face, the nose I gave him made him look more like a pig than a dinosaur. I don't remember any significant comics I drew Andy in though. The only comic I do remember clearly was one time Cinnamon and Midnight realized since Andy was an herbivore dinosaur, they could use him as a living lawn mower. I'm not sure why I stopped drawing these characters. I might have just lost interest in drawing a dodo that didn't really look like a dodo, and drawing a quadruped dinosaur might have been too hard. Also, since Uncle Weird stopped appearing, that would also mean there'd be no more comics where Olivia would get in conflict with him, and so there'd be less motivation to draw her again. I didn't any drawings of Olivia or Andy after 2002.
\n\n
For this re-imagining of Olivia and Andy, I have finally drawn Olivia with a more accurate looking dodo beak, and Andy has been promoted from quadruped to full anthro status being on two legs. Also, he no longer has the weird pig nose and instead has a weird ankylosaurus beak nose. The two of them have moved out of Cinnamon and Midnight's house, and have enjoyed a peaceful retirement from the comic strip for the past 22 years... until Tyler the thylacine accidentally found them again and they have an extinct species meeting. How rude! You shouldn't sneak up on retired characters like this. They may not be ready to handle how much the world has changed in 20+ years and meet all the new characters that have entered the comic.
\n",
