"description": "MY PLACE s02:e66 - Forest Life\n\nThere’s a spot just behind the town plaza where I like to sit and fish by myself.\nIt’s not really a great place to fish since the nearby waterfall makes the stream hard to look into, but I like the sound the waterfall makes as well as the town tree close by. I rarely have time off to enjoy this area to its fullest, but with Stinky running most of my menial errands as of late, I’ve gotten a chance to kick back for a while. This corner of the village also has an abundance of trees by the cliffedge. It’s the most forest-y part of Place and it makes me wonder about the town’s history.\n\n\nI imagine that once upon a time, Place was nothing but trees and grass and a quiet river. It’s obviously a lot different now, but to see some of that original landscape still present is oddly reassuring. Like, mankind… whoops, animalkind has taken over, but not without respecting what came first. \n\n\nI dunno. I was feeling retrospective that morning. Wondering about how significant my contributions to Place are gonna be in the end. Will I be the mayor to end all mayors, with statues and national holidays hundreds of years into the future? Or will I just be another in a long line of guys who tried to make something out of nothing, only to ultimately not go anywhere? It would kinda suck if that were the case, because it would solidify my situation just as pointless as it is weird. I’m an inconceivable distance away from my home where people were people and animals rolled around in their own filth. Here, though? People is just me and the animals expect me to do a good job. Animals here get into fights and squabbles about politics and petty superstition. \n\n\nOne animal I do like came to say hello as I waited for this stubborn dark blob in the water to finally take the bait at the end of my fishing rod.\n\n\n“Hiya cool guy,” he called, “had any luck with the fish today?”\n\n\nThrough cosmic timing, I began to reel in the fish in question as I responded.\n“Just about!” With a tug and a pull, I was almost sent onto my back with a slippery creature in my arms. “You wouldn’t happen to know what this is, do you?”\n\n\n“That’s a barbel steed! I used to have a friend who was obsessed with those.”\n\n\n“A barbel steed!\n\n...um, a-all it needs is a barbel saddle? Does that work?”\n\n\nSimon laughed. “I see those stand-up lessons are paying off!”\n\n\n“Yeah,” I grumbled, “I sure do feel more and more like a clown these days…”\n\n\nAn awkward pause was obviously next to follow. I don’t know what compels me to say things like that. What am I after? Sympathy?\n\n\n“Say, Mayor?” Simon asked eventually. “I was talking with Becky just a moment ago, and she agreed that a picnic area would look pretty good around here. It’s close to the river, there’s lots of shade with the trees… What do you think?”\n\n\n“Already on it.” I said, bluntly.\n\n\n“Oh… did Becky already tell you about it or something?”\n\n\n“Nope. Vlad suggested it first. And just like you said, I think it would be good to put one here. Anything to fill up space, I suppose.”\n\n\nI could tell that Simon could sense my aloofness. I’m not proud to admit that I’ve been taking some of my frustration out on him recently, and if I were to actually look him in the eye, I’d notice how anxious he was to bring up a certain elephant in the room…\n\n\n“I… heard that you and Alice had an argument the other day,” he said, the words causing me to cringe. “Something about Vladimir and the police station? I haven’t actually asked her myself…”\n\n\n“Ugh,” I groaned, “she specifically asked for a police station. I went through all the trouble of getting it sorted out for her, only to be called an idiot for ‘not doing it right’. She also has this wild-cap theory about Vladimir that I can’t even remember the details of. Something about him co-erxing me to do whatever he says? It was ridiculous. She might have lost a few marbles lately.”\n\n\n“Oh, I see…” Simon wasn’t sure what to say in response to that. Usually, he offers some words of wisdom or a quirky anecdote, but it was as if now he was scared to protest or voice his opinion at all… which annoyed me further.\n\n\n“Anyway,” I said, cutting off another round of dead air, “expect the picnic area to go up next week. I’ll see you around.”\n\n\nIt hurt to cast Simon off like that, but if I’m in a bad mood, I don’t want him hanging around just for me to act like a snarky jerk at his expense. \n\n\n“Hey!” Simon called from the nearby bridge. “Wanna go grab a coffee?”\n\n\n“...I’d like that!”\n\n\n\n\n~Author’s Notes~\nBit of a sombre episode today, not unlike the lowest points of the first season, but friendship prevails!!",
